After seeing all the talk on the.LIFE Files and elsewhere, Nike has decided to pull some of the ads created by Wieden + Kennedy studio…specifically the one we showed you guys, and one other ad called “Punks Jump Up”.
So This Ad WAS Homophobic???!

well i really wouldnt say its gay i would jus say the guy got dunked on and now in days wen tht happens they say he got(t-bagged)…………………. but u could look at it both ways it does look gay 2………….
if anything it’s “homoerotic” not “homophobic”. I’ve seen this shit happen on the courts before…big deal…people are eternally in 7th grade…time to grow-up
This not homophobic…. anyone who plays basketball understands this poster, only homo’s who don’t play find it offensive… shit dunking on someone is offensive!!! Just ask Shawn Bradley when Tracy Mcgrady sat his testicles on his upperlip, on when Lebron almost broke the effin rim jumping over Tim Duncan last year, or When Vince “I have wings on my ankles” Carter Jumped OVER that 7 footer from Europe and on his way up Tea Bagged the dude then rubbed his sack on the top of his head!!! Thelifefiles dig up those videos and let people see facial nutter butter is a daily occurance in the life of the unfortunate who stand in front a rim that hangs 10 feet above the earth… anyone can shoot but only a real man can put his effin hand IN the rim ala Vinsanity in the Dunk Contest!!!
Haterz go kick rocks. this has been done plenty times over. damn is everything homophobic now. this has shit to do with homophobia. i mean its is cool to be sensitive to everyone’s needs, but this homophobia crap is getting a little to absurd. chillout people. its not suggesting anything. so why complain now, NBA player’s do this all the time. get a clue and ease up damn…

I thought Wieden and Kennedy no longer was on the Nike campaign trial (guess Nike recommissioned the “JUST DO IT†and “Bo Knows†slogan squad.
As for the ad? it’s a different take. Not particularly fond of it because they’re not the tour-de-force with the nike spots like they were in years past.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say the ad is homophobic, just not a very clever one (if they were aiming for controversy as their primary goal, they may generate some of that but not as effective as i think it could be. The hyperdunk is a revolutionary shoe that should be accomodated with a revolutionary campaign/marketing ploy).
I understand WK’s attempt to stir the ad in a different, unconventional direction but the advertisement serves the shoe zero justice imo.
We want something cool and mindblowing, not self-depricating and ambiguously facetious.

I said that a good week ago.
So they did take heed.
They taught me at advertising school that it’s okay to differentiate yourself, but you must not dismiss your demographic and consider what you’re working with. Lines do get crossed, but by the time that has ocurred, it’s already too late.
Again, i see it turning heads but (WK’s intention), but i don’t see the homophobic factor being the discrepancy of this ad, rather, the ho-hum-ness.
People will roll their eyes at something like this, might chuckle or giggle, but it’s not memorable. And i’m not speaking about this from a uppity ass white conservative pov either (the only time i left the hood was to go to college and i’m back, unfortunately).
Pardon the digression.
In sum, this is one of those times where the attention inducing, controversial-laden spot backfired.
I’m quite positive WK will redeem themselves and give us something that will not only blow our socks off, but find prominence in display via posterwalls in subways, periodicals, billboards across the US etc because it’s something the masses will WANT to see.
I have faith, we’ll see where this turns in the next few weeks or so as the Mens US Olympic
basketball team continue to endorse this incredible sneaker.
It’s crunch time.
*shrugs*
But what do i know, i’m bagging groceries for living.
This is supposedly portraying some type of homosexual activity? Interesting, for once I agree with MaleDot… this is not at all portraying homosexual activity but you know who does???? MTV they are all about making people really comfortable with homo activities.
Homophobic? Tell me how many gay men WOULDN’T say that getting another random dude’s sweaty ass grundle to the face during a pick up game ‘AINT RIGHT’.
