Master Percy Miller Takes On BET With Better Black Television (BBTV)

by admin on 08/15/2008 · 21 comments

New Orleans own Master P.who recently changed his stage name into his real name Percy Miller - has announced that he’s launching a new cable network to provide “positive content for a black and brown culture.” Percy has already signed up $everal advisory board members including Denzel Washington (okay, Percy Miller!); Vault Load Films president Jim Finkl; NAACP executive director Vicangelo Bullock; NBA player Derek Anderson; cable industry veteran Prof. Sal Martino; hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc; entrepreneur Olatokunbo Betiku; and real estate mogul Curtis Oakes.

In a statment Percy said he came up with this vision hanging around BET Founder Bob Johnson“I remember him telling me back in the day that if you wanted to know real estate, you’ve got to hang out with real estate investors. If you wanted to know sports, you’ve got to hang out with athletes. I anted to know TV, so I hung out with Bob and learned the TV game from one of the best in the business.” The network has already begun production on several shows and is set to launch in 2009.

So, who’s going to be tuning in????

More importantly, let’s talk about this the.LIFE Files TV thing…we’ll try to keep it clean!

THIS IS A SMART IDEA! Props to Mast, I mean Percy Miller for recognizing the need and stepping up to the plate. Aint no reason for complaining about BET when we have plenty of actors, producers, and entertainers to pool their $ and start their own.

Bob Johnson can still kiss my black as* tho.

Long over due, Bet is coonery at it’s finest. It went to shit when Tavis Smiley and Ed Gordon got the boot. Bob Johnson could of sold the network to Bill Cosby when he asked, but nope waited till Viacom(MTV) came calling and sold out like a good field nigga. I hope this really works for Percy, we need a different look of ourselves.

This is a great idea. I am tired of BET. Music videos all day, No news about what is happening in the inner city. They are a lot of topics to talk about black people. We are African Americans but know nothing about Africa. Instead peple will tell us to laugh at Africans because they are walking around naked. Meanwhile it is not all so. Arica is a beautiful continent. I pray Master P that you are succesful in this, instead of the pimp by the name of Bob Johnson who has gotten himself rich and is trying to stop the progress of the first Afican American that has a legitimate shot of becoming president.

Bravo P!!! Positive black programming is long over due. But I have a feeling powerful white folks are gonna try their hardest to make this venture fail (its funny how as I read my own post, that I realize how pessimistic and hopeless black folk see their world.. i.e. Obama being assasinated, etc.)

Uh huh, something better than Biscquit Eatin Television? I already watch that it’s called PBS. I do commend P. Miller in standing up and actually doing something.

Now the question is, who will support this man? Prolly a bunch of middle-American and suburban white kids. No no no don’t try and say I’m wrong. Jadakiss said it best, after a rapper hits 700K in sales, it’s all white kids.

Good luck, P.

This is an excellent achievement. As a black American residing in Australia, we don’t get much of black entertainment out here other than the most popular. I hope BBT gets on the Foxtel cable and satellite services out here soon. I miss it. Oh, by the way how about promoting some contemporary and smooth jazz sounds as well?

Good Luck and much success!
