It is always sad to see a young person go down before there prime….but lets keep it real! At HER BEST was an OK artist. She was an OK singer, an OK dancer, and an “alright” actor and she lacked “STAR” personality. Sometimes in death we can over-value a persons overall impact on the game. I sure she was a nice person, but where would she rank against the Janet Jackson’s Beyonce’s and Madonna’s of the world. Timbaland and Missy are almost totally responsible for her musical success(minus R. Kelly). In the matter of fact Missy and Timbaland hardly missed a step without her around. Look at Genuwine without those two behind him!

R.I.P to an angel who was on her way. Hollywood was buzzing at this new young talent, contrary to what Chun and Anom think about her lack of “starpower”. She was intelligent and much more of an example than your girl Ms. Spears or LIFE’s favorite boozer, Ms. Winehouse.

Ignorance is very becoming for some people. In my personal opinion Aaliyah was definitely a force to be wreckoned with. She was on her way to very lucrative career as an artist, did we forget that she ventured out into the movie scene? No r & b crooner was doing so at this time so give credit where credit is due. Yes & shout outs to Brandy for the whole Moesha sitcom thing. I applaud artists who realize that they have to think outside the box in order to have longevity. I understand that music maybe your 1st love but as an artist your creativity must not be limited to just the radio. I give much respect to Aaliyah b/c I respect when a woman doesn’t have to be half naked & booty shaking/ gyrating in order to get recognition. And so what if Timbo & Missy were responsible for her career. It’s when someone has a vision in u & when a person believes in you that comes about. Someone is always responsible for somebody else’s success even behind the scenes, please do not ever think that people get to the next plateau by themselves. Whether it’s a professor, janitor, cousin or kindergarden teacher, there is always someone that gives you the will/ strength to succeed aside from the Lord above.

omg! it’s unbelieveable how people can still hate on someon even after they’re deceased. It’s shameful and disrespectful to do it to someone who’s well and living,i can’t even think of the word for when you still do it to someone who’s no longer around to defend themselves.
As far as Aaliyah goes,it’s sad that she had to go so soon. I think that her absence gave way to a lot of “artist” who are out today. Whoever said she was an ok singer,is obviously one of those people who only listens to what’s playing on the radio. I guess you think soldia boy is an amazing artist,he had that one hit for quite a while. Aaliyah was way ahead of her time as a singer and dancer. If she were still around,ciara would definitely not have a career today. She was versatile with her music,she was edgy but sweet and sexy whenever she wanted to be. She made it possible for Alicia Keys and Beyonce to go to a movie audition. She wasn’t afraid to venture into the acting world and as a starting actress had roles in major movies.
Also, miss Beyonce also owes her career to ALL the members of Destiny’s Child. No one becomes a star on their own,it takes a lot more than just one person to make it happen.
Before you open your mouth to put someone down, really take a closer look at everything they’ve achieved. She had a lot more songs than just One in a million just like ciara had a lot more flops than she had #1 hits.

I agree with all of you. Chun why would you even make a remark like that? I have to say Aaliyah wasn’t a Whitney Houston, or a Mariah Carey, or Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin; but she COULD SING. SHE HAD A VOICE. The only reason why her acting wasn’t all that big was because they gave her too small and short of parts to play. But I know that if she had bigger parts, she would’ve been one of the biggest R&B singers, acting venturers out there. I got ALL OF AALIYAH’S SONGS; I think she was so unique so special, so different. She HAD TALENT, SHE HAD POTENTIAL, and she was such a beautiful girl. She’s the reason why there’s so many one named singers here in the industry now for example; CIARA, RIHANNA, CASSIE.. Aaliyah was making beats and lyrics for songs that nobody else was even thinking about bustin in the studio yet. She had a soft voice which also lived up to her “street but sweet” image that she came out with. Aaliyah was BEFORE Ciara, she was BEFORE Cassie, she was BEFORE, Rihanna and she was BEFORE Beyonce and Destiny’s Child. I believe if still here her music would have went very far, I mean just think about it; She made more hits from 1994-2001 than Ciara did from 2003 until now. Ciara struggled with her 2nd album and is struggling with her 3rd. It only took Aaliyah her 1st album to become a household name! Aaliyah, even in R. Kelly’s shadow at 15, was making hits. Her Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number hit became gold, as so did her songs Back and Forth and At Your Best. She ran in a marathon for women with breast cancer, and she gave money to charities. I’m not going to label her a saint, or an angel, but I WILL VOUCH for her having a great heart and kind spirit. She contributed to way more than Ciara has thus far. I’m not going to put her up in the lane of Janet or the other soul singers before her, but for our generation; the early 90’s all the way until the early part of the 21st century, she WAS AN ICON. She was a teen model. I mean she was SINGING, DANCING, ACTING, MODELING. She didn’t have to wear clothes showing her breasts, and pants showing parts of her butt just to sell a record or to make a song more appealing. She was brought up better than that, and knew that she wanted to respect her body. Her image was right for her, and I have nothing but respect for her. She left way too soon, and in my opinion the only reason why people are second guessing her career was because she didn’t get the chance to prove to people what else she was capable of doing. She was just starting to blossom and venture out more into the different fields of the industry and she was robbed of her furthering her self in music, in acting, in modeling and anything else she was planning on doing. She didn’t get to get married to Damon Dash, she didn’t get to have children, she didn’t get to make another album and she won’t be at any more awards shows. She’s gone. I will ALWAYS be a fan of hers, no matter what others say. But Ciara needs to apply her self a little bit better than what she has been here lately before she goes trying to compare her and Polow’s chemistry with that of Aaliyah and Timbaland’s. At least Timbaland was producing more hits for Aaliyah than Polow has for Ciara! But I like both artists, but Ciara is actually being quite repetitive with her songs, and dance moves. Nothing new or exciting. Aaliyah wasn’t a hard dancer, but she danced smooth and slow, she switched up her choreography every once in a while and it always left you wondering what she’ll be doing next. She kept you interested, she kept you drawn in somewhat. Completely smooth, and a very beautiful young woman. A joy to my eyes to watch. She is greatly missed, and will NEVER be forgotten. There will be MANY AALIYAH DUPLICATORS, and IMITATORS, but NEVER AN AALIYAH REPLACEMENT..
