Chicago congressman and chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Rahm Emanuel has been named as President Elect Barack Obama’s Chief Of Staff (job description). We see everyone wants to be all politically involved now, so here’s some things you should know about Rahm:
- He’s 48 years old, married to Amy Rule, a woman he met on a blind date. They have three children.
- He studied ballet in high school and was offered a scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet, but went to Sarah Lawrence College instead, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He has a master’s degree in speech from Northwestern University.
- He has served in the White House before, as a senior advisor to Bill Clinton.
- A devout Jew, Emanuel was so intent on negotiating the passage of Congress’s $700 billion-bailout bill that he got a special waiver from his rabbi to work through Rosh Hashanah.
- His brother, Ari, is a high-powered Hollywood agent and the basis for Jeremy Piven’s character in the HBO series Entourage, Ari Gold. Emmanuel himself was the basis for the character played by Bradley Whitford in The West Wing: Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman.

Emmanuel is one of the most hard-line supporter’s of Israel and has been for years. He’s the son of Benjamin Emmanuel who actually was a gun-runner for Irgun, the pre-Israeli Zionist militia that carried out numerous terrorist attacks on Palestinian civilians, including the bombing of the King David Hotel. So much for changing middle east policies. If you want to know why Muslims in the middle east hate us is because we support Israel. Israel wants to take Gaza strip from the Palestinians.Obama administration needs to immediately end The Siege of Gaza: it’s totally indefensible, and it is a crime unprecedented in modern history, that 1.5 million people are confined to a Ghetto, starved, cut-off from the world: threatened! This is indefensible and there’s no need for this to continue even for a single day under a new administration that should be setting the standard very high; not accepting ’slight hints’ that ‘in a few year’s time,’ an Obama administration “might” accept a Palestinian State or might talk about one. The days for that are over. This situation is urgent, and we really need to see radical change: It’s not going to come from Rom Emmanuel and Dennis Ross and Martin Endig-it’s only going to come from a groundswell; demanding that the promises of ‘change’ be kept!”
