It’s time for a change in our government and also apparently in our music. Kanye West has single handedly spearheaded a change in the sound of music with his latest studio album “808s & Heartbreak” that features the infectious hits “Love Lockdown” and “Heartless.” According to Hits Daily Double, the album is on pace to move 450k – 500k units in its first week (hitting stores Thanksgiving Day week, and a day early).
Which bring us to our next point of who is the real king of hip-hop? Lil’ Wayne moved 1 Million units of his Carter III album earlier this year and Kanyeeze did half those numbers. We can’t help but think what first week numbers 50 Cent would put up now, or even Jay-Z’s new album Blueprint III coming out next year.

Fuck NUMBERS lol. Fans be more concerned with soundscan than the artist. Growing up i had no clue who was goin gold and platinum and didnt give a fuck either heh. The king was determined by who was putting out the better music, not first week album sales. And lil wayne album was pretty weak, he fooled the world. Kanye joint was pretty good, his passion and love for the music surpasses everything though. Dude has more heart for this shit than anybody. Oh and fuck 50 cent, he’s more interested in the business aspect of music and the music aspect of music. So instead of making music for the heart, he just caters to the fans AND THATS NOT WHAT AN ARTIST SHOULD DO.
The offical numbers are out Kanye movied 443,559 with a 1% margin of error.
Lets see Kanye dropped 4 albums of them debuted at #1 except for College Drop Out which came in at #2. His previous 3 albums all won the Grammy for best Rap/Hip-Hop album and all were nominated for overall album of the year. If I’m not mistaken the only other artist to come close to these stats(meaning record sales and Grammy nods combined) is Eminem. So I think the real question is who is the the king Ye or Em?

Jay-Z had 10 #1 albums but not in row and also take into consideration that Kanye has 10 Grammy’s off of only 3 ablums while Jay-Z has 5 Grammy’s off 10 albums. Not to mention Jay has never sold more then 600,000 in a week Kanye has done it twice and both Emimen and 50 Cent have done over 600,000 with all there albums.
But your right as long as where talking about this Jay-Z’s name should be in the conversation.
the jay is very clever and and talented but in in terms of commercial success, he should of shifted more units for the amount of albums he’s put out…. when you compare him to em and pac. The fact that he has never gone diamond, also indicates that he doesn’t have that natural cross over appeal like say a pac, 50 cent, or even nelly!

And to sideshow and deana: Ur right, Jay never had cross over appeal which makes it that much more ill that he been able to do the numbers he has. And he sold over 700,000 of Kingdom Come.
Ok these are still decent numbers for Kanye, not as big as his last effort, but this is due to the artistry, and some people may not like it or get it. 50 can easily achieve this number without any shadow of a doubt. When there is a bunch of hype behind an album people tend to support it, becuz they are anxious to see whats it all about. Weezy is doin incredible. Jay has had a ton of success maybe not the crossover appeal as many of the others. But in terms of success he is up there. However, as far as commercial success none are touching Pac,Eminem, and 50. Kanye’s biggest album is always 3x platinum which is awesome, but Pac and Em have sold like 9 mil, or went diamond with there biggest efforts. Also talent wise i think that they are both respectively much better than Kanye. I sometimes see him as more of an innovator, and artist as far as visuals, and mindset. All in all its much more about the quality of the music rather than album sales. But i guess sales seem to be bigger than other things to alot of people. Lastly, sometimes it takes people a while to get used to new styles and or directions of music. I wish them all the best, if they bring it with the music tho.

Uh, Kanye sold out MSG in 7mins they had to add 2 more shows. I know what Jay-Z did with the Radio Music Hall shit but that don’t equal the stadium that Emimem pack just based on his own star power. Emimem did 2 shows drawing about 100,000 people the question is could Jay pull that in Giants Stadium? Maybe……………
