Today after some controversial comments she made while in Seattle hit the web Etta James spoke to the NY Daily News to set the record straight, kinda:
James told the Daily News Thursday she meant no harm when she poked fun at the President and ripped Beyoncé for her performance of James’ hit “At Last” during the inauguration.“I didn’t really mean anything,” James said. “Even as a little child, I’ve always had that comedian kind of attitude. … That’s probably what went into it.”

No one is force to experience anyone if you do like a artist dont listen to them are watch them isnt that the easiest thing to do. Etta james should be happy because alot of people would know who she was without beyonce palying her in the movie cause my mother didnt know who she was and still dont know i had to tell her who etta james was . her times has been up like 30 year ago. Now why would she be invite she is Irrelevant now and no one over 70 was performing any way.
and it is not her song she cover the damn song to so what all the fuss about the only person who should be complaning is the owner of the song cause etta keep calling it her song. she need to retire for good any cause she sound like a senile old lady.
The sad thing for Etta is its not even her song. She didn’t right it and basically wasn’t the first performer for the song. The president chose someone he wanted, and obviously that wasn’t Etta. Since, according to her, he is not her president, then it didn’t make since for her to be up there singing!!!

I’m sorry but Beyonce had no business attempting to portray Etta James in the first place. It was so contrived and phoney that the movie flopped. If Bey hadn’t starred in Cadillac Records then she would’ve never been asked to sing “At Last”. The inauguration just added insult to injury for Etta to see someone who never deserved the role to now be asked to perform a signature classic that she made famous. In other words “Get ya own shit, why you riding mines”

I can appreciate Etta’s sense of humor and I am sure Beyonce can too.Beyonce worked with Etta on the set, I am sure and more and likely knows Etta’s sharp tongue to be funny and forthcoming. It would have been great if Etta did sing at the Inauguration, more history could have been put into history and Etta James still would have wuuped ass as she sang it! I like what Bang Bang said..And to add more looking at it from both angles it really does not matter what James said about Beyonce or her intentions behind it. We don’t know the specific circumstances surrounding the comments. the media will inform what they want and will add to and take away from the whole meaning. At age 71 Ms. James has the right to say what she feels jokingly or not regardless to what anyone has to say about it. There should be no ethical standards placed on a woman who made this song her own(with or without sole ownership) for as long as she can remember. And Beyonce may have brought it back to life as some seem to think but lets get one thing clear. Just because you are unfamiliar with your history and its music does not mean everyone else is. So to comment on it in such a way as if the whole world is supposed to be in agreeance with you is ignorant and tired. Get with the program people. The movie was about the struggles of not just Etta James but what was going on with all black artists in general during that time(just like Dreamgirls). So if she was mad she had every right to be and knowone should take that away from her. Also about the Obama comments no lies or miscommunication took place from Ms. James’ end but please recall that Ms. B did not support him she supported Hillary.
