After helping start the NY Daily News gossip column in 1976 hosting her own Live At Five show for years, then moving on to the NY Post, Liz Smith has been fired from the daily newspaper. “I’m very sorry that that has come to an end, and that I wasn’t valuable enough for them to keep me on,” the 86-year-old Smith said Tuesday. Liz was told her $125,000 contract wasn’t being renewed “due to economic circumstances, they were the bearer of bad news and so forth.”
Liz will now be writing daily on her “women on the web” site wowOwow.

AND WHY SHOULD WE CARE AGAIN?
The Voice also let Lynn Yaeger go after nearly as many years.
@Missy why should we care, America has huge challenges ahead as a whole generation of people grow up with no concept of working for the same company for more than 2 years AND not wanting to invest in our financial institutions, b/c we live in uncertain times where nothing is sure to “last”. The concept of your company or job being stable do not exist. The concept of you putting money away (thanks Madoff) and that $ actuially being there when you need it, does not exist.
In the immortal words of the Color Purple, “what us gon do now?’
IN TODAY’S ECOMONY EVERYONE IS REPLACEABLE , FROM THE CEO TO THE CUSTODIAN. NO ONE IS “SAFE”, SALARIES ARE BEING RENEGOTIATED & SEVERANCE PACKAGES ARE BEING GIVEN AWAY LIKE YESTERDAY’S NEWS. MS. SMITH IS ONE OF THOUSANDS. $125K? THIS CAN ULTIMATELY BE THE SALARY OF 3 TEACHERS, WHO AT THE END OF THE DAY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EDUCATING/ ELEVATING OUR ADOLESCENT YOUTH. AMONGST OTHER THINGS, I CAN’T & WILL NOT SYMPATHIZE. THE DAILY NEWS MADE A SMART DECISION & I COMMEND THEM. THE AGE OF THE COLUMNIST/ JOURNALIST IS A SLOW DYING CAREER, WHICH MAY BE DYING SOONER THAN LATER DUE TO THESE TRYING TIMES.
