I think that the Virgin Mega stores closing has more to do with the rapidly deflating real estate bubble than it has to do with the music business. But overall the music industry should be well aware that major changes are on the way and that the lifespan of the talentless bubblegum artist is getting shorter and shorter. Pretty soon the industry will be forced into raising standards and bringing back the substance.
I don’t know it seems like people have so much access to free music, but I would think that with all the tourism down there they are still making money. Its crazy, this recession has business’ that have been around for decades closing down.
it all depends on how u look at it, recession declining sells, but moreso to do with the recession and a money issue, bcuz this store sells more than just music, i also agree that we need substance again in music, its just not enough of that these days, people keep complaining about record sells, well alot of that also has to do with unoriginal bland copycat horrible terrible music by bubblegum untalented artist. People are sick and tired of the same ole same ole being rehashed time and time again. This store is historic tho, i hope someone saves it.
Wow. That’s crazy that this store is closing. I was just in that store a few months ago and didn’t feel like buying a $15 cd, and probably went home and downloaded something later that night. A store closing down in Times Square is surprising.
Plus this shop is like 4 levels big…it made more sense 10 years ago. Someone should be fired for this long range plan …..but a Wal Mart would be a much better look.
I always loved this store but I never thought they should have never built it
I agree with Nae they are closing because the price on their lease has gone up…good ridden…We need a big ass Forever 21 on Four Deuce anyways!
