I don’t think people know how amazing this video is. You have mostly East Coast cats partying on the West Coast. That’s not a big deal these days but in 1997? Unheard of! DJ Ace shouts out some amazing acts; Tupac, DJ Clue, Russell Simons, Jermaine Dupree Aaliyah, and Death Row! I was in 7th grade when this all went down so I was out of the loop when it came the the “ins and outs” of Hip-Hop. People look happy in this video. You don’t see that anymore. The music being played, Nas, Snoop, Wu-Tang, Pac, BIG, is still relevant, 12 years later. The DJ is spinning vinyl and doesn’t have a laptop in his face! The clothes people are wear is great! Yes, it’s dated but no one is trying to make a statement. They are just looking good. Clearly the phrase, “bling bling” (it hurts me just to type those words) had not been coined yet.
I dare say a large piece of Hip-Hop culture died with BIG and PAC. I only wish I was old enough to appreciate it while it was going on.
