Dash is by no means a "genius." He is flat out ignorant. If he were such a contribution to Hip Hop, he'd still garner the respect of the industry regardless of his personal/financial woes. Damon simply piggy-backs off people with talent and/or connections in the industry to make himself relevant. (e.g. Jay-Z and Rachel Roy). I have to disagree with Russell.
