As predicted Eminem topped the Soundscan charts this week with an impressive but not CRAZY debut of 602,844 CD’s sold in his first week in stores.  Other honorable mentions include Green Day who sold another 165,000 this week after topping the charts last week, Method Man and Redman who despite not making much noise sold 63,165 and finally friend to the.LIFE Files Busta Rhymes who sold 59,000 units of his latest heavily hyped CD “B.O.M.B.”.

So the music industry lives for 6 more months at least!

Just for clarification…

Soundscan numbers only reflect actual CD sales from store shelves within the USA.

Soundscan numbers do NOT include full album downloads from digital retailers such as Itunes, which has more or less become the standard for music consumers these days.

Also, International sales are not included in Soundscan numbers, which is unfortunate especially when talking about stars with such a heavy International fan base.

Just sayin’

The numbers can be very misleading.

No, Lil Wayne never has and never will be the king of hip hop. If you want to go by record sales, The Marshall Mathers LP sold 1.76 million in it’s first week. You can say, “yea but that was in 2000″ well I say he hasn’t been dethroned yet numbers wise.

Marshall Mathers LP also came out before the days of digital music sales through Itunes and the like.

I’m sure if you could see the download numbers for Relapse from Itunes and combine it with SoundScan’s actual CD numbers it would be near 1.76 again.

At any rate, CD’s will be long gone before you know it and so will DVD’s. Digital downloads are quickly taking their place in the market.

Lil Wayne needs to stay outta the limelight for a hot second. Everybody tired of him right now. Gucci Mane shining right now as far as that South shit.

Well I wasn’t one of the 600,000 who bought it and I can’t fucking stand Marshall Mathers.
