Rags To Riches

Not only is South Dakota rancher Neal Wanless the first lottery winner to make the.LIFE Files he has also just stepped forward to claim one of the largest single winner lottery jackpots in U.S. history!!!  According to the AP report:

Wanless, who is single and lives with his mother and father on the family’s 320-acre ranch near Mission, said he’s going to buy himself a bigger spread, repay the kindness other townspeople have shown his family and spend his newfound fortune wisely.

“I want to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity and blessing me with this great fortune. I will not squander it,” he said.

Wanless bought $15 worth of tickets to the May 27 30-state drawing at a convenience store in Winner during a trip to buy livestock feed. He will take home a lump sum of $88.5 million after taxes are deducted.

If we find out this guy is Ted Turner’s nephew we’ll KNOW the lottery is fixed….and how did Uncle Sam make more than him?

what did the government do to deserve their $150 million cut of this guy’s winnings? That is a scam. The government is so crooked. If anything, give them the $88 million and give him the rest. Another story of the “man” screwing the “regular guy”

The government didnt get more than him.

The $230Million is the total amount that you would get if you took your payments over 20 years and added them up. (Its called future value)

If you take the money upfront, they give you the amount of money that you would have in the bank today if it were to sit and earn interest of about 4% over the next 20 years. (Present Value)

So he probably got a lumb sum of about $130 Million upfront, and Paid 38% tax on it to leave him with $88Million.

At least thats how it worked when I won a few years ago.

If he had not chosen a lump sum payment he would have received an annunity” check once a year for 30 years. Will he be on “E” in the future of “the curse of the lottery”. I would never tell the world I hit the lottery. It creates more problems. I wonder how many ppl are now calling him “my best friend”.

@Bar
FINALLY someone asked the question: How does the Goverment, who by th way is running the lotto, gets the earnings from the people who buy the tickets AND get MORE THAN HALF of his winnings?

MORE THAN HALF!!!

sorry @American Woman and @Ron I need more proof that 232 – X = 88
X = 144 = ALL TAXES

~~~~~~~~ long post continued
@American Woman
If what you say is true (and it does seem logical since I am aware of how to calulate future value of money) then why in the world do they say he won 232 Million? Another trick with numbers so people can buy into it?
And yes, @American Women I agree that it is possible that he will end up with the curse of the lottery winner. he might get that irregardless of getting the lump sum or payments. From the stories I have read, even the ones with payments end up lossing their payments to some debt companies and such.
TO ALL OF THOSE WHO PLAY LOTTO
If you have no idea how to invest, don’t play. if you have no idea how to read a financial statement, don’t play. If you can’t control your money right now, don’t play. If you have no idea nor did ANY RESEARCH whatsoever on how to handle that amount of cash or the cash you currently earn or want to earn in the future, DON’T PLAY.
BIGGIE TOLD YAL YEARS AGO
Biggie said it, “Mo money, Mo problems” I want to have THOSE types of problems, but if i do not understant finance, the economy, business and a little bit of tax law, I will most certainly loose a few million, if not all of it.
This is why so many lotto winners end up with the lottery curse.
START BEING GROWN AND SEXY YALL!!!
Don’t just get that paper, know what it means to have it and that doesn’t mean spend it on cars and clothes. You can do both – have it all – but learn how to manage your money.
