After hearing about all the buzz surrounding our post about a watermelon flavored soda with some questionable imagery being sold in their stores the good folks at Target contacted us today with this statement for you LIFERS that may have been offended. Now we REALLY want to taste this stuff…..
First and foremost, it is never Target’s intent to offend any of our customers – or guests as we call them at Target – with the products we offer. If any product raises questions or concerns, we listen to our guests. That’s exactly what happened here. As soon as we were made aware of the concerns about this soda, we removed it from our shelves.
We sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been offended by this soda and assure you that we’re going to learn something from this situation that we can apply down the road. That doesn’t mean we’ll always get it just right, but hopefully it shows that we’re listening.
Thanks for sharing your concerns, and again, I apologize on behalf of Target.

Way to nip it in the bud Target…even if many of the LIFERS didn’t think the soda was racist…

Sir Jason compiles lists…
Damn….I was gonna go to get some today. Should’ve went the other day like I planned. Racist or not….that soda taste great. I know that I’m gonna catch some flack for this one and I do apologize, but I’m keepin it real…the soda’s da bomb.
I’m not sure if people really realize how long that soda has been around. The first time I noticed it had to be around 1999 when I first moved to NJ and I’m sure it’s been around longer than that. I will say that because of the picture on the can, I never had the desire to drink it. I’ve always thought it was offensive, but not to the point that I’m gonna call Al Sharpton and have a press conference in the corner store about it…
Folks need to get it together and get over it. It’s just soda and it’s probably good as hell…If you don’t support the imagery, Don’t drink it..
reminds me of Nas’s joke
regardless…they didnt have to make the girl look like white eye back face with the stereo typical watermelon.
I dont get it. I love watermelon and if i had the choice between black girl can or white girl can ima snatch the black girl can. It’s obviously geared to a darker skinned market. Get them panties out a bunch and move on with yo life.
Don’t nobody say nothing about the 500+ negros that have done Popeyes ads!
I’m tired of ppl claiming they feelings is hurt, move on with that emotional shit. Its an ad!
