Nappy is no fun. I remember b4 i got relaxers having to get my hair straightened with a hot comb for hours cause my hair was so thick. Yes its “afro centric” but not easy to maintain like short do’s. People think cause its shorter its easier…same goes with untreated hair.

based on what i see from africans, nappy hair should be kept amber rose low!

I would consider healthy hair to be good hair. Weather its nappy or straight, long or short.

I agree, good hair is healthy hair point blank. I mean what good is straight hair if you have tons of split ends, knot, bald spots or traction alopecia(SP)?

I don’t think the term should be bood or bad. I think when people say ‘good’ hair its to say that the hair is more manageable. You can have an……’unnatractive’ grade of straight hair just like you can have an’ unnatractive’ grade of Black hair.

Yes it’s that pool ready stuff the light skinned chicks have. Call a spade a spade.

it has nothing to do with light skinned. To be honest this whole debate is because of means perception. You think women would be going outta there way for anyone else but men?

Good hair has been attached to light skinned, white or Hispanic women. Why? Black women have good hair good as well as some other races having bad hair.

Good hair to me is tied to health. Some women with so called nappy hair can simply change their product and have softer hair regardless of the length; the same way a you can go to Dominicans and get a wonderful straight blow up and the next day when it rains your blow out is blown.

Hair is hair, there’s really no good or bad to it. Its health or unhealthy!

And Young Berg I’m brown skinned with curly brown long hair. Healthy and can get it wet anytime of the month. Stop with the color issues!

the perception is that soft, curly hair is considered “good hair” for black women because its easy to manage and can be easily straightened. I have super soft long curly hair myself ( im somalian- east africa) and people of all colors ask me alllll the time where im from or if i have any “indian” in my blood lol.. and sad to say i do notice black people we treat the females/males with “good hair” better than our counter parts who have hair that is not as easy to manage…. true talk

Good hair is hair that is clean and healthy, texture does not matter. Its a shame that black women are so caught up in what is on our heads as opposed to what is in our heads. At the end of the day you can only be proud of what you make of yourself, who you are…not some random combination of genes that happens to give you long, soft, wavy or curly hair or clear skin, big boobs or a “donk”. Are we really so superficial?
We cannot blame these so called good hair/bad hair standards on our men either because they do not fall from trees or grow up on their own. WE RAISE THEM, and mostly alone. They see us (black women) chasing every kind of look but the one we are born with. So they chase it too. I have nappy hair and I am proud. I don’t braid it, I don’t twist it, I don’t cornrow it and it is not dreaded up. I wash it, shake and go every morning. It’s clean, healthy and beautiful. I get crazy attention too, and from men of every ethnic background. They’re attracted to the confidence. The majority of the negative things I hear about my hair are from my own black sisters. Maybe one day there will be no need for this type of discussion, but something tells me that day is a long way off.

……I think Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton would strongly disagree with the first part of yout statement…lol.

But to answer your question, yes, black people are that superficial. That day that you speak of will only come if and when we stop giving away our power and self esteem by trying to hold ourselves to standards set by white folk, for white folk.

Do any of you ever wonder why blacks from other countries sometimes find more success in the US than American blacks do? it’s simply because they don’t give a fuck about white folk think and view them as their equal rather than their superior. American blacks are still in mental slavery.

Just because u want straight manageable hair does mean u wanna b white. So lets get off the-American Blacks r ignorant tip. There r “white” people that have curly-kinky hair as well. Do they want 2 b “whiter”?

Im a different bread of woman. I love nappy hari, it can do so many things that not so nappy hair can’t do. my hair is curly. i love it, but i love the nappy look thnat Erykah Badu rocks here and there… But really healthy hair is good. Its not about being white, its about us as women trying to impress other women.
