Congratulations are in order for the 22-year old college Hawaiian senior who became the first ‘non black person’ to receive the honor on at the historically black University on Friday!  But it seems that everybody on campus wasn’t happy to see Nikole who attends the university’s Virginia Beach campus with about 90 other students take home the crown, and things got so bad she wrote a letter to President Obama:

Aloha Mr. Obama!

My name is Nikole Churchill, a senior nursing major at Hampton University. This past Friday October 9, 2009, I was honored to be crowned Miss Hampton University 2009-2010. It truly was the best night of my life! With that being said, I am sad to say that my crowning was not widely accepted and many negative comments regarding my win have been shared throughout my campus.

It would be much easier to say that possibly some were not accepting of the news because I wasn’t the most qualified contestant; however, the true reason for the disapproval was because of the color of my skin. I am not African American. Despite the unfortunate beliefs that some are saying I should not have won, I am desperately trying to focus on those who believe in me and support me and my goal to represent this beautiful, multicultural campus the very best way that I can. I would love your help!

I am hoping that perhaps you would be able to make an appearance to my campus, Hampton University, so that my fellow Hamptonians can stop focusing so much on the color of my skin and doubting my abilities to represent, but rather be proud of the changes our nation is making towards accepting diversity. People are even nicknaming me, “lil Obama” because of various reasons. This is truly an honor as well!

I am also from Hawaii (Wahiawa) and I am hoping that you can assist me in opening some closed minds and help share some aloha spirit throughout my campus. I feel as though you could relate to my situation, which is why I immediately wanted to contact you. I was interviewed last night at the HU vs. HU football game by news channel 13 and I mentioned how individuals such as you and myself are making changes in hopes people can stop placing so much focus on our skin color by letting that define what we can, cannot, should, and/or should not do. Dr. Harvey welcomed me last night to the family with open arms and I was beyond honored when he told me that he is behind me 100%. I am proud to represent Hampton University and I am so proud having you to represent our home, our country. Your support with my crowning as Miss Hampton University 2009-2010 would be graciously appreciated. Please reply, I will be looking forward to it!

-Nikole Churchill

Barack might be busy but……..What’s going on Hampton University????  Talk to us!!!!

Its not that the females are hating (they just lost), it’s just that it’s an HBCU and certain positions on campus are ‘supposed’ to be held by Black students. I attended an HBCU and I remember we were in need of a new head football coach and the best candidate we had didn’t get hired because he wasn’t Black and the Black coach they hired led us to three losing seasons. Even at Morehouse in 2008 they had a white valedictorian and the students and alumni alike were very upset about it. It’s not right to try and punish these students because they were better than the rest. It’s just an ‘uneasy’ reality that our HBCUs, that receive state funding, will slowly but surely become more integrated and Nikole was just Hampton’s first taste of it. They’ll get over it.

Did she really have to write the president a letter though?

I completely agree with you. By now, please, let it be about us, U.S.A , us; I lost folks defending this country and I know ya’ll have too. Enough with the race thing. I’ve got plenty of brothers that are my freinds. But I grew up in the south and played ball. We judged everyone on ability, like the military, competent, responsible folk everywhere, not a program in sight. Didn’t really give it a thought, still don’t. And she did take the photo and SHE is a race baiter and I’m kinda ashamed but she is hot and all the sista’s look pissed.

I would have taken back the trophy from the girl in the black dress after seeing that facial expression from this pic….Unless, thats just her regular face….Then she shouldn’t even be up there. Ole girl in the white looks like she about to cut somebody lmao. Shorty in the Pink look like booty doo. Last but not least, if Miss H.U. really had a problem with the backlash, she shouldnt have gone to an HBCU. You mean to tell me all the years she’s been there, everything been smooth? GTFOH.

@ Fool’s Gold…2 things…

First, I live in Atlanta, and I remember nothing but support for Morehouse’s first non-black valedictorian. I think the main difference with him was that he was extremely active on campus and had great relationships with a lot of the student body. My understanding with this young lady is that she is not involved on campus in any way, shape or form. I can understand hesitation to have some represent you and your university & student body if she doesn’t have relationships with any of the students, and knows nothing about the university’s student life.

Second, Hampton – much like several other HBCUs – is private and therefore does not receive public funding.

9 Anonymous 10/13/2009 at 4:09 PM

I don’t think she would have made it if she wasn’t in some way qualified. Personally I think a HBCU should welcome this to show we have truly over come, so much so we welcome all.

Reply

10 Anonymous 10/25/2009 at 10:32 AM

First of all she knows alot about the student body. She does a lot of participation no one just doesn’t pay her much attention. Just like she does not belong!!!!However I am Nikole’s friend and I love her dearly. And I an Native American and I get negative comments and looks because of the way I look. People think I am biracial so they automatically start making negative comments toward us. Why because were pretty. If you take the time to look beyond our/her looks and stop thinking were stuck up and get to know her/us, you would have totally diffrent views.

Reply

11 Mel C 11/12/2009 at 6:21 AM

omg STFU…if she does a lot then why could not even one student verify that they had ever seen her before the day the contestants were revealed. Just like you said, if you don’t know then don’t comment. You don’t know us so don’t try to sit up here and VERIFY anything. Plus you sound really ignorant with the whole “why? because we’re pretty?” statement.

@ Anonymous…2 things…

I also live in Atlanta and I remember hearing him (the valedictorian) coming on V103 and speaking up for himself on Frank Skii’s morning show. He spoke about the support and resentment he was receiving on campus and why he chose to attend Morehouse. There were plenty of people that were unhappy and happy about and called in to voice their opinions.

Second: “It’s just an ‘uneasy’ reality that our HBCUs, THAT receive state funding…” – Hampton and the other private HBCUs wouldn’t be included in that statement would they? The HBCU I attended is a state school so the general statement I made about HBCUs with state funding and their transitions is valid.

Hey Fool’s Gold, ever looked at the nursing curriculum? Ever chatted with some of the students? They must be prepared to sacrifice their life to become a registered nurse. Possibly you’ve not understood the commitment a nursing student has to complete and sit for the NCLEX.

people need to have their facts straight including miss hampton. i currently attend hampton university and i was present at the pageant. it has nothing to do with race and if you werent there then i do not feel as thought you can have an educated and informed opinion on the subject. nikole was not the best candidate. her dress was did not folloe guidelines. it did not touch the ground and besides that it was hideous. there were girls there that had beautiful voices and her talent was not on the level as some of the other dancers.

it is also a problem that she does not attend the school. she failed to mention that in her letter. she attends the virginia beach campus and no one has ever seen her before. if you are the most qualified contestant then no one can argue with te decision whether youre black or white. she was not even a contestant that shouls have placed let alone win. i think that this stunt she pulled writing to the president is ridiculous. he has international and national events to worry about and how dare she try to put herself on the level of barak obama. that is outrageous. she wanted attention because this issue should have been brought to dr. harvey before she tried to make the issue public.

GREAT POINT! I am a graduate of a HBCU and for the most part, students at those institutions are more acceptable to other races, than those at majority white colleges. Second, she doesnt even attend school at the main campus or active at the main camps. In other words, no one knows her or of her! That is where the problem lies. Writing to Barack is just stupid. Did the student body get to vote or was it a panel of judegs who decided for 5,000 students. When in college, the student body voted for homecoming queen. Anything less than that would be open to controversy.

25 Michelle 10/25/2009 at 10:42 AM

First of Ms.Anonymous you need to check your spelling, there are a couple of words that are mispelled. Secondly I am Nikole’s friend ans I was at the pagent also. Why does someone always have to sing or dance why can’t it be any other talent such as the one Nikole did.
And as for the letter to Mr. Obama I think it was apprpriate and if you are feeling attacked you would have did the same thing. This is however a national event. It made national news. So why not address it. I am an African American and I attend an all white school William & Mary and I recieved the same comments from the students at my school dut to the fact I was racially accepted. I know how she feels and she has every right to feel this way. And as far as her dress is concerned it was worn as apart of her style and culture if you do your research on Guam and the big island you would know why she wore what she did. I think it was beautiful
Also why do you have to be popular to win a title? Half the girls up there are because of one ting and one thing only!!!! Sorry she did not put herself out there like that…

OK let me spell check you since you want to put my classmates on blast.
First of (OFF) Ms.Anonymous you need to check your spelling, there are a couple of words that are mispelled. Secondly I am Nikole’s friend ans (AND) I was at the pagent also. Why does someone always have to sing or dance why can’t it be any other talent such as the one Nikole did. (this should be a question mark not a period)
And as for the letter to Mr. Obama I think it was apprpriate (please include vowels, the word is APPROPRIATE) and if you are feeling attacked you would have did the same thing. (No, home training teaches us better. There is a chain of command, you always start at the bottom) This is however a national event. It made national news. So why not address it. I am an African American and I attend an all white school William & Mary and I recieved (RECEIVED, i before e except after c!) the same comments from the students at my school dut (is this supposed to say but?) to the fact I was racially accepted (the remainder of this sentence makes no sense). I know how she feels and she has every right to feel this way. And as far as her dress is concerned it was worn as apart (this is not a compoud word in this case) of her style and culture (this should be the end of that last sentence…RUN ON) if you do your research on Guam and the big island you would know why she wore what she did. I think it was beautiful
Also why do you have to be popular to win a title? Half the girls up there are because of one ting and one thing only!!!! (please elaborate sense you want to declare this as factual) Sorry she did not put herself out there like that…(how did they put themselves out there?

Why would ANYBODY want to go to a HBCU, I’m black and I didn’t. I went to a private predominantly white college and would do it all over again. HBCU’s are no more than Ghetto High School Part II. It is not my intention to be mean, but it is what it is, truth hurts.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about Universities and Colleges they want to attend. You wanting to go to a school that does not cherish your heritage and uplift you as a person is your opinion and choice. However, I attend Hampton University and I have dreamed of attending an University where everyone is treated equally and with respect. It gives me great pride to walk on campus and see hundreds of African-Americans taking pride in their studies and representing themselves in an appropriate manner. I would appreciate it, as well as most of the students attending HBCUs, that you keep your negative comments about HBCUs to yourself. And though you many not realize it now, but your ancestors built these institutions for you because the other schools would not let us in based on the color of our skin.

I may not have been completely happy with the one I ended up at for various reasons, but all the same if i had transferred it would been another HBCU. I agree with the others, you truly need to learn and take pride in your ancestry and history. Lack of knowledge creates more ignorance both mentally and spiritually!

Ummm just because they don’t label themselves “HWCUs” does not mean they are not “HWCUs.” That goes without saying or formally labeling them as such. and you better believe the first few blacks that attended those “HWCUs” faced the same rejection that Ms. HU is receiving. Not saying that it is right, but that is the reality. Whenever the majority feels threatened and thinks it is losing their power, they get upset.

I have no problem with her winning. But let’s not get it twisted that folks were happy when blacks started attending and excelling at “HWCUs”.

41 Anonymous 10/19/2009 at 8:24 AM

Are there any affirmative action programs to make sure the campus is diverse at any of the HBCU?

42 GMAN1911 10/16/2009 at 8:04 AM

THAT black doctor that might have to perform brain replacement in your cranium. just may be a product of a HBCU. Think about it. THE college i graduated is well renowned for there mediacl and pharmaceutical programs. I graduated 20 years ago, and my counterparts now are podiatrists, own dental offices, doctors, surgeons, sit on very influental medical boards, etc. In other words, dont pollute this board with ignorance!!! If that is Ghetto High School II, than that is a ghetto I am proud to be apart! Its good that you didnt attend a HBCU cause with that attitude, you would have had nothing but problems.

Reply

43 NCAT 10/19/2009 at 9:10 PM

Of course there are affirmative action programs at HBCUs. Because white children are taught that their schools are better, the only way they would attend an HBCU is if there as an a.a. program to give them scholarships.

However, we voluntarily go to their schools giving into the unfounded notion that there is a better education system if white people are in charge. Self hate will bring us down in the end.

Ok ok ok take the claws back people!!
I attend Hampton University and I find it increasingly offensive that the women that attend the school, like myself, are referred to as “hatin ass hoes!” The problem with Nikole wasn’t a fact of her race, but more so of the lack of involvement she has with the school and the lack of knowledge she has about the university as a whole.
The uneasiness with her and the students is more of a misunderstanding more than anything else. The students anger should be more directly targeted to the administration and the way they chose the contestants for the pageant. Nikole recieves most of the hate, because many fail to see where the shortcomings begin.
Personally, I believe Nikole was the best candidate out of all the girls who competed. The picture that has been used on all the blog sites is a bad photo.. I was there and there was no shade thrown at her from the other contestants. HU is not a racist institution, and shouldn’t be regarded as one. People expect HBCU’s to stay the same as they have been for years. However, many fail to see that as the country diverses and progresses; so do the schools and institutions within it.

Reply

50 vab3986 10/14/2009 at 9:57 AM

the apology was only made after the girl felt bad for bringing the schools ignorance or just the ignorance of people like yourself to light in front of the white house. she does not attend the campus because nursing classes for sentara are only done in virginia beach, sorry she doesnt have to rough it in the hood like the rest of the campus, and how involved do you have to be to be a pageant winner, it is completely about race thinking otherwise is a joke. congratulations nikole, and what an outrage it would be if in any school any where a black girl won and any white male or female said anything

stop living by your double standards its gotten old, but ignorance always settles to the bottom as sophistication and class remain at the top. These girls not only lost, but due to the picture atop the page were sour in doing so and just made complete fools of themselves, although the girl in the pink does have a beautiful smile and im sure she was a great contestant as not a sour loser as were her running mates.

sorry being black doesnt make you a shoe in anymore then being white and running for president does

Again congratulations Nikole and write all of the letters you want. Bringing light to a rascist situation is correct. Even if the president shares the same race as the offenders.

what does kanye west have to say about this, or how about serena, jesse jackson, or al sharpton or any other socially accepted loud mouth white bashing rascist. No race is oppressed anymore then the other its 2009 and caucasions are treated as if we (the generation currently alive) are the reason or scapegoat. Just tired of blacks being able to say what they want and even if a girl sends a letter in search of help and light on the situation she is quickly urged to cover it up with a apology note as if it were her fault she was being harrassed. Congrats HU on putting your campus back 400 years.

Its utterly ridiculous how you (I presume your caucasian) and others like you consider any black person that sees all is not right in America is a “white bashing racist.” I am sorry to inform you, but yes racism does exist. And even though it’s not as blatant as it once was it has just taken another form. My parents are only in their 40’s and didn’t integrate schools until High School, so that means every other white baby boomer (including your parents and grandparents) took part in preventing black ppl from basic human rights. These same white ppl just so happen to be the politicians, business owners, CEO’s, police officers, etc… that dictate the direction of this country. A leopard can’t lose his spots but he can definitely hide them. Yes we as black ppl do play that card sometimes when it is not needed, but if no one ever said anything about it we would probably be in Jim Crow again. I attend school in the south, and it’s a completely different world here, even when dealing with whites my own age. Not to say that there aren’t, but I don’t know any black person that has a grandparent who attended any SEC school. So we as black people have to have tougher skin and should be taught from the day we are born that you have to be 3 X better than your white counter parts to be treated as an equal. Look at President Obama! He was the President of the Harvard Law Review and certain ppl would rather vote for dumb ass Palin for president in 2012..lol You can save all that double standard bull, it’s a standard, and it wasn’t set by us. Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the devil, and the government is lying about 9-11. Thank you and good night. Sorry about the interruption, you all can commence conversing about the pageant…=-)

52 vab3986 10/14/2009 at 3:51 PM

it is definately a double standard, if you dont want a stereotype then tell your ignorant counterparts and celebrities to quite painting one. And stop blaming white people any time you dont accomplish what you want. Its pathetic, and annoying and dont even get me started on all the money the lower class sucks out of this country and the multitudes of people who do nothing to improve their situation except blame the people around them, applying yourself is how you become equal not by pointing out the past and acting as if it really effects you currently. And anyone who has pulled the card on this girl shame on them, she won fare and square. Maybe white people should have boycotted barack obama’s win because we are a majorally white country… but no that would be wrong bc he was the best canidate and he won because of that.

53 denise 10/15/2009 at 12:48 PM

This is not the place for this hatred in the first place. Obviously you have a problem with black people and that is a shame. But you have your facts wrong! Whites are NOT the majority, that waaaaay back in the day.. We have came full circle and you have to get used to that. I feel she should have went to the school and did what was needed to participant in the pagent.. I think there are more issues than what is presented and it is said and done now!

54 Sgen 10/16/2009 at 11:51 AM

I will say I understand everything is not right in this country. However, it is kept alive by BOTH whites and blacks. I was in a interraccial marrage and I have seen it on both sides. And FOR YOUR INFORMATION my father and my family always spoke to the fact that everyone regardless of race, regardless of religion, regardless of economic stature has something to bring to the table. Instead of being a part of the problem, be a part of the solution. I will not take responsibility for a racist act or comment because i treat people as I want to be treated with respect; and i believe we are all important. We all have something of value to bring to the table. So in return I will not ACCEPT a racist remark from anyone either. I dont need to apologize to anyone for being white but i do not feel anyone should have to apologize for being what they are either. God has made us all special and he made us how he felt we should be. People in general are so quick to focus on the negative they become a part of the problem. So start being a part of the solution. Not every white person was a part of the problem. If you dont want generalization then you need to quit doing that yourself!!

OKAY, the main campus doesnt have a nursing school. Point well taken. HOWEVER, that doesnt mean that this young lady can’t get involved in activities at the main campus. SHE can join a sorority, beome a member of the nursing club, peer dean, etc–the list goes on and on..from what i am reading, she is just someone who came out of nowhere and decided to run. She is a hottie, so I would tend to think that, at the least, some guys on the main campus know of her. FOR those who attend or have attended Hampton, my question is : DOES the student body vote for homecoming queen? At the HBCU i graduated from. the student body votes, not a panel of judges. Does anyone know what else she is involved with on campus. From all accounts, she is nothing more than a pretty face. As for the runnerups or whoever those other women are…they arent very photogenic.

Thank you Monica for relaying the facts.

Now as for those who hate on HBCU’s, I went to Spelman, and I am sick of people stating that these institutions are ghetto.

I grew up in an ALL white environment. Spelman allowed me the opportunity to love myself as well as my African, African-American, West Indian, Asian and White counterparts. Perhaps those who think the institutions are ghetto have no sense of who they are and would rather continue to assimilate and not address the fact that there is more to our heritage that MLK, Malcom X and Nat Turner who were the only people I “needed” to read about until the 12th grade. If you grew up having a plethora of culture great, but for many attending HBCU’s, this is their first time being exposed to not only the diaspora but the idea of loving themselves.

These institutions instill a sense of pride, not shelter you from reality that it impossible to escape. The females at Hampton arent haters, but respectful of their alma mater and want their representative to not only adhere, but understand the principles of their college.

Historically Black College does not equal permanently black! The presidency of the U.S. of A. is an historically white institution. Didn’t keep Obama from winning – and he’s got his share of haters, too. Those same dour pusses on stage would be the first, I am sure, to deride his haters, but ironically reserve the right for their own bigotry and stupid prejudices to supersede dignity and respect at their school.
With those faces those chicks don’t even deserve to be on the podium with a homecoming queen – no matter the color of her skin…except the young lady in pink. She looks like a real winner. Kudos to her and Nikole!

As an alumnus of HU, I can say that the new Miss HU DOES NOT surprise me. It’s 2009 and we should expect that many of the barriers, sterotypes and other “traditional” elements of our country have to change. I was a student when the administration changed the pageant to a true pageant versus a popularity contest. Back then, there was no VA Beach campus at the time. Oh and yes, the VA Beach campus IS part of the school. If this young lady attends the VA Beach campus, then she IS a Pirate like the rest of us. Can a young man from the VA Beach campus pledge a frat? When they have graduation, will they be at the Convocation Center or somewhere else? Answers to those questions lead me to believe that she is indeed a bona fide Pirate.

Secondly, there’s no requirement that applicants for the Miss HU pageant be Black. In that case, she’s in the clear.

Withe everything that’s happening in the news with President Obama taking flak for his race, we need to look within. This young lady is taking heat for being in a pageant and people don’t want to accept change. We need to give her the same consideration that we want the country to give President Obama.

Finally, if people don’t take a step back, this issue is going to draw negative attention to the school and truly make the national media. If Sean Hannity gets hold of this story, HU will end up in a sea of negativity like Jeremiah Wright did last summer. Therefore, please chill. Accept the new woman and don’t take pageants or anything for granted.

Thank you, looks like she is a bonafide member of the school! and that letter of apology is pathetic. She did not need to do that, that coerced letter is going to get her media attn more than anything else.

The REAL story here is that they did not want her writing to Obama. Did not want their ignorance being dragged out in front of the White House. The fact that they are debating her being white is disgRACEful.

Welcome to Hampton, VA.

Hmmph. Modern media at it’s finest. It’s obvious by the varied expressions that this is a candid photo; a better photo is posted here:

http://bossip.com/164983/for-d.....y/ms-hu21/

It’s clear that this photo was chosen to invoke a response to the largely exaggerated “uproar” over this woman’s historic win, and it obviously succeeded in this task: for the simple crime of being caught without a smile, these young black ladies are now regarded as “hatin’ ass hoes.” Shame.

whether or not the photo is a candid or not is irrelevant…..caught without a smile and deliberately putting a stank ass look on your face are two different things…and the look in the girls eyes says it all. EVERYONE WILL ALWAYS HATE ON THE WINNER, and the fact that the winner wasn’t Black at HBCU just makes the hate that much worse. While I do think it’s a bit overboard to write the president of the country because people were hatin, afterall what’s he gonna do about it, come to the school and be like “yall be nice to Nickole…it’s not nice to hate” YEAH, OK.

Anyone else think it’s funny that white people were hatin in the 60’s because Black kids wanted to go to White schools and now a white girl enrolls in a Black school and gets treated like their parents did back in the day…why don’t we try a lil thing called treatin people how we wanna be treated. You don’t wanna be discriminated against? FINE! DON’T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST OTHERS YOUR DAMN SELF…you don’t want people hatin on you…then don’t be a mothafukkin hater!

Obviously the judges thought that Nickole deserved to be the winner, it is what it is and what’s done is done, everything else is just personal opinion.

I attended an HBCU, and I know exactly how it is. It may not be right but there are years of traditions behind these schools. I read the comment posted by a student that attends HU, and she said the main focus wasnt completely on her race and only that school would truly know that. I dont think it fair to try to spotlight any HBCU as being racist, because our entire existance is due to non-acceptance into the so-called prestigious white schools. Yet our prestigious Black schools are being “diversified” so much that WE are becoming the minority again. We know from within, once that happens we can begin to lose black funding and then ultimately the title of being an HBCU like some schools have already done. Yes it is a tradition to honor our beautiful Black sisters as queens when most of society wont. No it is not right to refer Hu student as ‘hatin ass hoes” because it truly shows ignorance and disrespect. i do think Nikole was a bit extreme by writing a letter to the President to try to help her case. I must agree with another comment above, about this being such a big deal all of a sudden as if during the entire time she has been at this school she has never encountered any such issues previously. You knew what the possibilities were when you entered Nikole, but it sounds as if you were not ready to take any of them on. What would have happened if you had lost, then you would have had to deal with the backlash and ridicule of that. Reality hurts!

Who really cares its not like she won a $50,000 scholarhip and will have a photo shoot w/ Ebony magazine, yada yada yada…. Congrats to the white girl that won the crown and $1500.00 and the opportunity to run in the Miss VA pageant…Now thats what she needs to focus on. And the letter to Obama was beside the point! Was she trying to go tell or something? Such is life….tomorrow is a new day! Too much attention is placed on the subject! What about helping the kids who live in at risk communities……. Does anyone know her platform?

if in 2009 we can have a president who only served his country for 3 years prior and just has a background in law (like every politician) and really has no background in politics… because he is black… i mean then why not a white girl win ms HU

and that same president won both prior election due to his running mate dropping out… you can’t make this stuff up… and the phrase “we did it” if a white canidate ever ever ever said that jesse j and ol’ al would attempt to tare a new whole in the guy. I’m a supporter of change i really am because it eliminates excuses, it holds people accountable, it gives every person a shot.. but ive never seen blatent rascism glorified like i have since he has been in office, free passes are over, maybe we need to stop turning our head and remember you people are adults too, and are responsible for your own actions

Why shouldn’t she win? Should she not have won because she is not black? Should Obama not have won because he IS black? It’s time to move on from this. Yes, it is an HBCU but we as a people cannot continue to demand that white people include us but then we want to exclude others. Nikole Churchill, do your thing, girl. And when you go on to be Miss USA, oh, won’t the Hamptonites crow “She went to Hampton!”

Looking at her I think it is possible that she was selected for the same reason Obama was elected – for her race. We all KNOW that Obama would not have even made Senator if he was just another white guy, (all white that is), and, with no disrespect for Nikole, she’s rather ordinary looking with too much eye make-up and probably wouldn’t have won if she was black. This is WHY liberalism is considered to be a mental disorder.

If she were the first black winner at an ivy league school you would all be cheering her as some sort of hero. It makes me sick when I see the same people who preach tolerance demonstrate absolutely no tolerance of their own. So what if she goes to the other campus!! If that were an issue, the rules would have disqualified her. Get over it!!! She is better looking than the other sore losers. Regardless of color, it was a beauty pageant.

Good grief. I was president of the student government at my college and I was an older (25) student who commuted. I was elected by the student body. I never ate in the cafeteria or lived in a dorm, and I attended a lot of night classes. No one had a problem with it and I did a good job.

This whole nonsense is reverse racism. Any arguments about how this woman is not active on campus are phony attempts to rationalize the outrage at a nonblack woman winning the beauty crown at a predominantly black school, plain and simple.

Personally, I’m sick of the reverse racism that goes on in this country. If you disagree with Barack Obama, you’re called racist. People who are black can advocate being a “black this” and a “black that” but if you reverse the situation they scream racism. We’ve had a black Miss America and the majority of this country is not black – so what – she won, good for her.

It’s ridiculous reverse racism and nothing more than that.

I don’t have a four year college degree. But based on some of the Illiteracy traits of some of the commentators here, I’m glad I don’t. If all of this chatter is an example of what is transpiring in our institutions of higher learning then I’ll pass.

I listened to some interviews of students from UC Berkeley (a very diverse school) and found that most of the students interviewed there were just as unintelligent as some of the ones here. So it’s obviously not a racial thing, it’s a generational thing.

And so the dumbing down continues. If the new generation spent half as much time seeking the facts as it did watching MTV and listening to the crap on their I-Pods, maybe this generation would have some kind of future other than the “you owe me” or the “poor me” mentality.

But you have to develop your I.Q. to higher than 3 above plant life to figure it out.

My child informed me of the unfavorable selection of miss Hampton because she was not african american and she did not attend the main campus. I saw a pic. of Mr Hampton well he doesn’t look african american either. But I don’t know. I am not informed of the rules of Miss Hampton but surely she must meet the guidlines set for her to compete and to win. So as you young fokes say, don’t hate the player hate the game. Would we be upset or be protesting the selection of an African American Miss Yale if white fokes we upset. I think not Jessie and Al would be all over that protest. Come on people the question should be did she meet the qualifications to run for Miss Hampton if yes then let go let flow. She won.

Michelle obama answered, “Many years ago there were monkeys in africa from which the human race evolved”.The confused girl went to her father and asked, “How come Sarah Palin told me that mankind was created by God, and michelle obama told me mankind evolved from monkeys”?Her father answeres, “Well, it’s very simple . . . White folks are just as ghetto if not more; just a bunch of sloppy drunk, white kids surviving on mommy and daddy’s dollars. The Blacks girls look “okay” in the pic; White girl is somewhat manly looking so the competition was definitely less about looks, because I know there are Black girls who would physically out shine everyone in that picture. Either way it’s 2009, racial difference should be embraced even at a HBCU. Congratulations to the manly looking white girl that won.

Let’s be HONEST for a moment. It’s not that this young lady became the “first” non-African American homecoming queen of a HBCU. I think I have a problem moreso with the fact that it is alleged Ms. HU 2009 had no interaction with HU’s actual campus life. How can you represent ANYTHING OR ANYONE if you have NO experience to share? I am an Alumni and current Grad student at an institution 3,000 miles away. I’ve never set foot on the campus, don’t belong to any of the organizations and couldn’t tell you if the student body is purple, pink or green. I therefore, wouldn’t dare have the adacity to rob my peers (who have contributed a great deal more than I) of any such prestigious titles let alone, blame it on race. Yes, race did come into play after all the HBCU sisters thought, “hum, I live on/near campus, attend school functions, participate in school activities, am supportive of my peers, and they crown this young lady as if this is “American Idol.” Somewhere down the line, either rules were considered or need to be reevaluated. I’d probably feel and look, for that matter, down right MAD if I gave it my all and all only to realize I could have taken online classes as a HU student and had a shot at becoming Ms. HU Homecoming Queen 2009.
I’m sure if this young lady had a better presence on campus and with her peers, this wouldn’t have exploded as it has. On the flip side, how dare she compare herself to our President. Bi-racial; yes. Hawaiian Native; yes. However, Mr. Obama EARNED his RIGHTFUL place within his environment as well as among his peers; whether he’s accepted or not. This is the tie breaker that separates Ms. Churchhill from the President.

Just my thoughts…
