You’re right, in comparison there is nothing else out there. But a true fan and connoisseur of real legendary gangsta music and lyrical abilities would rather put the entire movement to bed than to settle for and co-sign this inauthentic lackluster mediocrity.

I consider this to be lackluster and mediocre is because 50 is attempting to go at the most lyrically consistent and successful artist in the game. With that being said, a true lover of genuine hiphop like myself can only accept an “Ether” level or better quality of work when going at Jay. Nas raised the bar and anyone who steps in the ring is either gonna have to match it or surpass it. Anything less than that is just ordinary bullshit jabs that can be found on any mixtape at any given time by any ol body.

This is definitely no ETHER, as neither 50 nor Beanie could come close to the flames that Nas spit @ Jay. I will say this……Jay is, whether or not you like to admit this, is becoming so mainstream that his appeal to his core audience is beginning to fade. I wasn’t a fan of Blueprint 3 techno sounding pop rap and I’m also not a fan of 50’s BISD, but I think Beanie getting with 50 should be a heavy handed move against Jay right now….definitely a problem.

True gangsta is BASED in SOMEBODIES reality, but the skillset on conveying the story over breakbeats is not merely confined to those that live it everyday… although I think you should have some relationship with the life you speak of, even if it was in the past. a la Nasty Nas. If we went by the “actually living it standard” we’d need a new gangsta rapper like every 90 days!!!

This right here is HEAT. 50 and Beanie clearly have a rugged synergy that is street caliber, but has the potential to dictate and bully the pop shit that’s out now. Roosevelt is dead on with his assessment. Recycled bars or not, this effort is cutthroat. 50’s singing works well here, and the track keeps me anticipating the hook, yet wanting to here more of the verses. SICK, a la Roc ‘99.
I love the “In The/Da Club” references being how 50 and Beans both blew after their respective club joints.
50’s classic laugh and Jay-Z taunts at the end cherry-top this effort (very Pac like). This track is better than most of 50’s new album actually. And I think 50 should be applauded for this chess move. It’s dangerously entertaining, and makes yet another event in Hip-Hop worth checking for.

Sometime theLifeFiles seems so off with their music appraisals — either that, or they’re afraid to big-up controversial material. I can’t count how many times this site has heralded mediocre material, yet downplayed some touchy heat rocks.

What’ should be obvious to the opposing player or the spectators isn’t always caught in time to avoid. 50’s strategy is a move that forces Jay into a compromising position that questions his integrity as a businessman, and his confidence as an artist.
