This is allegedly a real image taken aboard an American Airlines Boeing 757 jet and posted on the blog Flightglobal which shows an overweight passenger who reportedly paid for only one seat but still was allowed to board.  The airline had this to say in a statement:

“At this time American Airlines is unable to confirm whether or not the image referred to was taken by a member of flight crew but will investigate the situation internally to determine if any of the airline’s strict policies were not correctly applied.  American Airlines’ primary concern is for the safety and comfort of its passengers and crews and consequently passengers are advised to book two seats if they are concerned that they will require them. If a flight is not full, however, passengers’ needs would be accommodated without charge wherever possible.”

So…who’s wrong here???  And what’s dude with his hand over his mouth thinking….

Sounds mean but if u could afford to eat everything in sight w/o a care in the world u could afford to purchase and extra seat for your fat ass so the person next to you doesn’t have to suffer

I’d say that the passenger was wrong. The airlines have no clue as to how big you are when you’re purchasing your ticket. It’s unfortunate for the obese that at this time airlines are unable to accomodate bigger people without charging them for two full seats. But it’s very clear that a person that big can not fit into one seat and should not be allowed to fly in a single seat if they are hanging over into the aisle like that.

damn son. only half of dude is in his seat. HALF. he’s honestly so big i don’t even have jokes – cause what can i say he hasn’t heard already. what’s not clear to me is how he got down that aisle.

if any of you have ever flown them small commuter/prop planes and private jets – that’s the type of nigga they WILL NOT let board. he will throw the whole weight ratio of the plane off balance.

He is to blame because he knew he couldn’t fit in one seat. The airline is also to blame because they could see when he checked in that he had a ticket for just one seat. They could have brought this up when he first checked in and they checked his reservation, or at the gate when they took his ticket. I have seen it done, this is nothing new. They are putting all of the other passengers’ lives in jeopardy because they are too embarrassed to say something to one customer. They even make the Flight Attendants put on seat belts during take off and landing. How could this be considered ok?

Isn’t this unsafe for take off and landing?
