We ran across this cool NY Post story about New Yorkers who will do anything to live in one of the world’s most expensive cities, even live in shoe:
55 sq. ft., Hell’s Kitchen
“It’s fantastic,” he said. “It’s a great neighborhood in the greatest city. It’s about $800 a month. You won’t find that price anywhere else in this area. I feel like the money I save not having to get on the train to get around because I’m in the center of everything is worth it.” Rabon said the longest wall in his apartment is 121/2 feet, and that includes the apartment door. At its narrowest spot, he can spread his arms and almost touch both opposing walls. He said he has trouble turning around in his little shower, and said taller friends have been unable to close the bathroom door if they need to sit. “The bathroom has an airplane sink turned lengthwise,” he said. “So I can’t actually fit in over the sink
90 sq. ft., UWS
The first night Felice Cohen, 39, slept in her tiny apartment — with a full-size loft bed only 23 inches from the ceiling — she had a “panic attack.” “But now I love it. It’s cozy,” she said of the 12-by-7-foot place, which rents for just over $700 a month. Her tiny bathroom is a challenge, though: “I had to learn to sit sideways on the toilet so I don’t bang my leg on the tub.”
105 sq. ft., Greenwich Village
Genevieve Shuler, 31, always knew she wanted to live near Washington Square Park, the neighborhood her parents once called home. “When I first walked in, I thought, ‘This is really incredibly tiny,’” she said of the $780-a-month pad. “There were no closets, no real kitchen. But I knew I could do more with it . Once I knew my loft bed could fit, I took it.” When it comes time to do the dishes, because the kitchen sink is so small, “I do them in the shower.”

damn.
this is a mess.
no.
really.
a mess.
NY has no reason to be that expensive.. that’s ridiculous.
No wonder it’s called; “The City That Never Sleeps”… people have to sleep in their bathtub/kitchen/living rooms. While, paying an arm & a leg to have that “privilege” (if that’s your perspective.) So, they prefer to roam the streets at all hours of the night & day, instead. Who could blame them?
they are living the “dream”
Ewwwww, not eating at her house. She washes her dishes in the tub….yuk!!!
HAHA thats messed up i rather get an apartment in lower east side but im planing to move somewhere in bushwick or Williamsburg or even maybe greenpoint well the upper brooklyn when i get a little older and stabilized with job and money.
and this is why i love california!
agreed. no reason for ny to be that expensive. the weather sucks and the people are rude. there’s nothing to do outdoors except go into other buildings/houses.
the weather does not suck.. we have seasons.. who the hell wants it hot on christmas.. not the move.. and all of us arent rude.. were sometimes rude to tourist bc alot of them like to link up arms and spread out on the sidewalk when us Ny’ers tryin to rush during our lunch hours! one side people, one side!
agreed with qtee cant stand fucking tourists. they should be banned they make me soooo angry and cali can suck it, they have the weather we have the life. All you people in cali are way too stuck up for no reason especially in the o.c

I live in the buckhead/midtown area of ATL and I am renting a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with full sized finished basement (now a music studio) for only $1075.00 per month…I also have a front and backyard…. Suck it it NY
That is really foolish. Did anyone go see the video on the NY Post site? Seeing it, the 55 ft^2 apt, will really blow your mind. It makes no sense!
I also liv e in Buchkead and get everything I need for a great price! Gotta love the south, when it comes to housing!!
Well i live in DC, and its not too much better, but much better then NY! i pay $900 for 1bd 1000 sq and then includes everything. I am sure $900 a month in ATL or anywhere further down south will get my a 4 bedroom house. lol
Yeah the cost of living is cheaper in the south but the pay also is not the same. Mayb im bias but i will take the city anyday over the country livin
Me too, but the only catch is that you have to be making an above average 6 figure salary to really be able to live comfortably and experience NYC. And unfortunately, even though the pay me seem high to others most people in NYC aren’t making six figures.
I have lived in DC and TN – the pay is the better in the South b/c you make the same if not more and the cost of living is soooo much better in the South!
I also lived in AR and the pay there sucks!!! So it just depends on which part of the South and what your occupation is.
It’s supply & demand…
But I personally think that Manhattan is over rated. There are some absolutely fabulous living spacese here, but the city has been so over developed that its soul has been ripped out. Now its just condos and Duane Reade’s everywhere lol.
I LIVE IN QUEENS nY with a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom Duplex for 1500.00! those people are assholes. All the want is a city address.. Its not that serious! Yea i know the South is cheaper, but i cant stand it. Its boring and slow..
