Since “Fela!” the Broadway musical co-produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith about Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti is doing so well, we decided to introduce you to the fella. The musical play centers around the interesting figure who often spoke against corrupt government officials in his music, famously married 27 women in a mass wedding, then eventually died of AIDS related complications in 1997 has been receiving rave reviews and according to the AP, this season’s 43 new shows on Broadway was the most since the 82/83 season. Yes, theater has seasons…….

I haven’t seen it but I love, love, love Fela Kuti and have so many of his albums! I was excited when I read they were doing a production about his life. Shouts out to S.O.B.’s for the Fela Kuti parties….

ne ways big ups to the real creators Jim Lewis n Bill T. Jones. the play has been out since last year great, powerful show…however was closed down due to money n it was off broadway…
throw some names like jay-z n will smith people flock not for experience but just to see y these two backed the play…nevertheless no matter why u went to see it, u come out with an unforgettable experience.
