For the first time in 23 years – Pepsi will not participate in advertising for the upcoming Superbowl.  According to Pepsi’s senior Vice President Frank Cooper:

“The Super Bowl broadcast can be an amazing stage for advertisers if it aligns with their brand strategy, however, brands should not blindly anchor themselves to history.”

“In 2010, each of our beverage brands has a strategy and marketing platform that will be less about a singular event, less about a moment, more about a movement.”

Pepsico has advertised in every Superbowl event from 1987 – 2009.

This is advertising. People are going to talk about how they aren’t participating probably even the broadcast of the superbowl too.

True @ Anonymous — but if their change in logo and thinking is indicative of anything, Pepsi is doing what it can to stay relevant, but on its own terms.

Good post, btw, TLF!

I am a big MBT fan. This is my second pair of MBT Sport 2 and unfortunately this is the only style that works for me. Most MBT styles do not have enough room in the toe box for my foot without special insoles. (I wear New Balance Pressure Relief insoles)I look forward to the time when MBT offers some of their styles with a more roomy toe box!
