hangover

First is The Hangover – “A Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.”

taken

Liam Neeson starred in Taken – “A former spy relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been forced into the slave trade.”

tyson

We were blown away by the Tyson documentary – “A mixture of original interviews and archival footage and photographs sheds light on the life experiences of Mike Tyson.”

precious

Mo’Nique was fantastic in the tear jerker movie Precious - “In Harlem, an overweight, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction.”

avatar

The movie that everyone is talking about Avatar directed by James Cameron - “A paraplegic marine dispatched to the planet Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.”

If you had to choose one of these movies for movie of the year, which one would it be and why?  Leave your thoughts in our comments section.  More end of year categories coming up!

I saw Hangover, Taken, & Precious……..you’re right about Hangover (I laughed uncontrollably) and Precious, but Taken?! HUH? I knew how the entire story line would play out before I even saw the movie – talk about predictable. I’d rather you replace Taken with Law Abiding Citizen.

Taken is top 5. If you already knew the plot that means you are educated. Screw Precious, I’ll never see that Propaganda. I lost my Hangover bootleg before I watched it. And Avatar, that is a plot I already know, people with physical handicaps get to be superman in another world. It’s supposed to be a recession, how are we supposed to put a movie #1 for the year and it wasn’t out for 350 days of that year?

Taken – is your typical movie. Dad is strict, daughter lies, daughter gets caught by the bad guys, dad saves the day. What couldn’t you figure out about that by watching the movie trailer?! There were no twists and turns….of course you knew he would rescue her in the end. Ohhhhhhhhh….If I hadn’t seen that a million times before. Heck Danny Glover did the same thing in one of those Lethal Weapon movies.

I appreciated Precious for the message and I enjoyed the book as well. The power of the story line and what she endured is what was touching about that movie. Some people who are going through situations like that need to see they can overcome and get out of an abusive situation.

Target has Hangover on sale for $17.99 – get a copy and laugh your tail off…….I’m tripping just thinking about that movie.

I’m glad avatar is living up to the hype. I remember watching titanic and getting a little misty. I was like 14 and didn’t have a girlfriend so I went solo. Lol nobody saw me boo hooing

Inglorious Basterds is my fav of the year, watched it again last night -”I’m gonna give you something you can’t take off.” Dont forget about District 9 because that was a great movie with a lot of meaning behind it. And Zombieland was just as funny if not funnier than Hangover.

D+Darko 12/22/2009 at 1:25 PM

agree.. I like zombie land.. and Inglorious and avatar are my top two, then comes district 9. Its funny how all the movies that had the hype at the beginning of the year (x-men, transformers, star trek, terminator) are not in the discussion.

JayRoc 12/22/2009 at 1:56 PM

I agree District 9 is a great one as well..

..and yes INGLORIOUS BASTERDS…how did I 4get when I saw it twice in theaters and just got the dvd…

Its a toss up between Taken & The Hangover. Both were great for different reasons.

Mir-Mir 12/22/2009 at 5:19 PM

Has anyone seen Brothers? That looks good. And how is 2012……still haven’t gotten around to seeing that either.

Come on, TAKEN? Are you serious? this movie is totally absurd!
Furthermore, it is a Luc Besson production, so it is certified WACK, trust me

I suggest to you THE ROAD starring Viggo Mortensen, a great movie

And TAKEN, i saw it last year, not in 2009

HOW COULD YOU FORGET ABOUT 2012 & INGLORIOUS BASTERDS. I DIDN’T LIKE THESE TWO (TWIGHLIGHT AND PARANORMAL ACTIVITIES) BUT EVERYONE ELSE DID. TAKEN, PRECIOUS AND TYSON SHOULD NOT BE ON THE LIST, THOSE WERE TOUCHING MOVIES BUT NOT THE BEST CONTENT.

Reply

Johnny Blaze 12/22/2009 at 11:04 PM

THIS IS IT by Michael Jackson was the best movie of 2009. Striving for perfection was the plot.

Fab 12/23/2009 at 1:27 AM

AVATAR….. but i was hoping they would put Inglorious Basterds in the list… the movie was epic.

Moon
Inglorious Bastards
The Bad Lieutenant
Star Trek
The Blind Side
The Messenger
Red Cliff II
Where the wild things are
The Hurt Locker

I consider myself the average, well cultured american. And I consider Life Files as a perfect example of a website that is tailored to someone with a cultured background.

ANd the Movie List is Perfect.

The numbers can be switched around however you want them. But you got all the categories covered: Drama, Comedy, Action, Computer Generated Animation, Documentary, etc.

I believe it was between Avatar and District 9, so Avatar won.

And action movies are always predictable. But Taken was good for what it was. Very enjoyable Action FLick. And Action flicks are hard to watch because of the predictability. Taken was easy to watch… “Good Luck”… Shit was HOTT!

My 2 Cents
