In the Feb. 2010 issue of Latina magazine Jennifer Lopez talks about her movie with husband Marc Anthony – El Cantante, and being disappointed that it didn’t win an Oscar. She says:
“I feel like I had that [Oscar worthy role] in El Cantante, but I don’t even think the academy members saw it. I feel like it’s their responsibility to do that, to see everything that’s out there, everything that could be great.” “Well, it is a little bit frustrating. It was funny; when the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars, I think, were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins—I couldn’t have been happier—but I was like, ‘How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?’ ‘Thank you so much! I just want to thank the academy!’ But we joked about it. It’s all good. Things will happen when they’re supposed to happen. I have the utmost faith and no doubt that it will one day, when and if it’s supposed to. You can’t get all crazy twisted over it.”

I’ve seen “El Cantante” and if anything her husband Marc should have gotten an Oscar. He was the main character. She played his wife. He really gotten into that character though. She didn’t really deserve an Oscar for her role in my opinion. If anybody was to be nominated in that movie, it should’ve been Marc.
It was actually a very good movie.
Puchi was a great character, I havent like Jennifer in a role like Puchi’s since Selena. She should’ve gotten a nom at least.

I thought it was great. The academy typically looks at what they want. Many a films go unnoticed and undeserving films/actors go without the credit that is due.
El Cantante got TERRIBLE reviews and she certainty wasn’t better then any of the people who got nominated that year. If she ever was good enough to win an Oscar it was gonna be for Selena.

Well people were sayin that El’ Cancante’ was really good, i think she’s a decent actress, atleast she has enough confidence in herself to say that she was deserving to win. By the way this cover looks very similar to one of her album covers.

Yeah, I also thought I’d win an Oscar for my ‘performance’ in the videos I taped with my wife. I sent the Academy some of them but although I was great and really tried to last as long as humanly possible, they never took my films into consideration. Such a shame, I thought this was my masterpiece…
Well, if she wants to win an award, she should give up acting and start doing porn because I see no other way she will ever get recognition for anything again. An Oscar? No way, but an AVN Award? Maybe.
I couldn’t agree with her more…She was awesome as Pucci, magnificent. Marc deserved a nod also, but she made the movie for me. I think she should definitely do more roles like that, gritty and honest and in your face…love that Jennifer
Are you all braindead??? El Cantante was one of the worst movies I ever had to sit through, it’s just a 2-hour-long inaccurate failure. Marc Anthony can’t act and will never be able to act, even if he was tortured.
