Kelis just posted a link on twitter to a letter that she wrote to PETA in response to a letter they sent to her. Lets just say that Kelis is extremely honest even relaying facts about the founder Ingrid Newkirk, and from the tone of the letter – you will see her in plenty more furs! Check out the letter below.
Good morning all!
Ok, so you’re gonna love this. The other day I got a personalized letter from PETA! Lol so after some thought I’ve decided to write one back. Goes a little something like this:
There is no humane way to kill anything, let me start there. It’s unfortunate but it’s part of life. With that being said, I would eat pterodactyl if you found some and you told me it was meaty and delicious. And after doing a very minimal amount of research……. I found out that the founder Ingrid Newkirk is completely batty. I had a feeling but she far exceeded my expectations. I mean certifiably insane! Lol this chicks will is nuts, google it – it’s a riot! Beyond the fact that I think she’s a diabetic, which means she needs insulin, which is taken from lab pigs (I know this because my sister happens to be in veterinary school), which would be completely hypocritical. It’s like don’t abuse animals unless it can help me.
I feel very strongly about a lot of things such as the sweatshops that spin cotton and the blood on their hands. Btw it’s not just the look of fur. It’s warm as hell and feels glorious, ever rubbed faux fur on your body? Nothing luxurious about that. Then the letter proceeded to name artist and designers who don’t wear real fur. Great! More for me! I don’t judge them, don’t judge me.
If I started wearing endangered animals like polar bear or orangutan then talk to me. (Which btw for the record I would not – I do believe in the preservation of endangered species) But the minks and chinchilla that quite honestly are rodents and if weren’t in the form of a coat I would demand they be put to death anyway are not an issue to me.

I eat meat, and in fact my mouth salivates as I type the word meat! And the paint throwing that’s just ridiculous! What if I was hurling Loubitons and Pierre Hardy’s at every sad poorly dressed person on the street? As right as I may be it’s just fanatical and crazy. And people have the right to feel as they please. What about art? Survival of the fittest. Natural selection? No let’s just let all the rodents run free and over take our cities. Oh wait they have, NY and LA in particular are infested! Why don’t u save them all from scavenging on the streets and ruining my evening strolls, take them home. Make them pets! Get off my back! Pun intended!
Underpaid minorities picking your vegetables, now that’s fine for you right? Please, fight for their rights. How about the poverty in the communities of brown people around the world. She had the nerve to say (and I quote) “get over it” talking of the issue of black people and slavery in this country verses cows being slaughtered. Is she kidding me? Lol yes she must be. Actually, she’s lucky most black people have real issues to worry about in the U.S and don’t give a crap what her delusional privileged opinions are. But she should try saying that again just for kicks n giggles on the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Blvd in Harlem n see how well people “get over it” lol.
If u want to preach do it about something worthwhile don’t waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk.
Find a worthwhile cause like the women being maimed in these Middle Eastern countries. Or female circumcision. Or women’s rights here in America, we still get paid less for doing the same jobs as men. Quite honestly if you hate the world so much go live in the forest where no one else has to hear you complain about the perfectly good food chain the good Lord created. Everyone has the right to an opinion, and that’s mine on that! xoxo

how can she compare need of insulin to need of get another fur coat that dont even look good. its health matter versus fashion thing, ugh. Of course, issues like poverty and things like that will probably always be more important to me, but its not like the most important issues are the only issues.
I dont agree with her, and i will never wear a fur coat, unless its like ice age and i need it to survive. I just dont find having dead animals on me ‘fashionable’, ‘high fashion” or ‘luxurious’.
That is her point. If you don’t agree with wearing fur, then don’t wear it. But let other people live their lives the way they feel fit to live it. Why does everybody have to conform to the same beliefs. I know people who are followers of PETA, but go out and sniff coke up their noses and pop pills every weekend. So you can fight to save an animal, but you can try to kill yourself? You can’t eat meat, but you can take illegal drugs? They need to get a grip on reality.

In almost every sentence i used “I” or “me”, and didnt hate on her or anything, just said my opinion, so I thought its obvious there’s no need in couching me to respect other people’s opinions because i kinda already do. She has a right to write a letter and say how she thinks fur is ok, and i have a right to say that i find it wrong. Im also not saying everybody has to have the same beliefs, cause i know its impossible. I know people, who are not followers of Peta, dont sniff coke or w/e and dont wear fur. Reality for me is, you cant save the world and all the animals or whatever, but you can live your life trying, being true to yourself and doing what you believe is right.
i think kelis’ point in the matter is that principles go out the window when your life is on the line and that the leader of PETA – despite her aggression and “enthusiasm” is as guilty of moral equivocation as anyone else. in other words, judge not lest ye be judged.
further, kelis’ argument is that issues have hierarchical importance – and in this instance she places human rights above animal rights. This is logical – as she is human.
for example, imagine a lion chasing down his peers in order to prevent them from eating a wildebeest – because it’s wrong. imagine watching that shit on discovery. nature is not a benevolent mechanism – and every time you eat – every time you walk down a street, every time you get in your car – something dies. this just the way of the world. imagine the thousands of bugs you’ve killed under foot just walking to the subway in the mornings.
groups like PETA chase fairy tales because – quite frankly, they need something to do – and most of them are not necessarily qualified to do much else other than huddle together and judge others from a position of supposed superiority.

But, only because animals die and this is the way of world, its ok to kill them (for stupid (imo) reasons)?? Screw all of you who are PETA freaks. Animals are not equal to us. Yes they deserve to not be killed strictly for their fur but if that is a plus, I am all for it. I would agree to killing them humanely for their fur if they had issues with overpopulation of said animal.

While i dont believe in rocking fur( i am from D.C. i just think you look like a str8 bama!). I dont like the PETA freaks, they think animals have RIGHTS, and sometimes RIGHTS over humans. NO NO NO! Nobody has to conform to the same beliefs in terms of religion, favourite colour and all that, but when your preferences encroach on the rights of another, that’s when people speak out and try to stop you. If you liked the sounds of human babies crying, would you be allowed to hit them with mallets? No, you’d get in trouble with the law, just as you would if you did it to your dog.
And Kelis, you’re an idiot. You should go back to getting with guys as shown with your lovely song Milkshake and stop trying to a) be a proper musician, and b) get into things that are far too intellectual for you.
PETA has NEVER said that animals are more important to humans. What they do say is that we should not kill if we don’t have to — and for the most part, we DON’T have to. Sure, someone living in poverty in Africa may not have the choice, but people living in developed countries, we do. There is no nutritional benefit to eating meat, no style benefit to wearing fur (frankly you just look like an asshole, the stuff is vile even without the cruelty aspect of it), so why do we do it? Why do we kill if we don’t have to? It says a sad thing about humanity if the reason is purely for taste or the “luxurious” feel of fur on our skin.
Thank you Kelis. Pure Entertainment. I can’t even get with PETA in the first place. I don’t wear fur, but thats my choice. Support humanity not #animal bullish in my opinion.

I respect the fact that PETA writes letters to these people trying to talks sense into them before launching a total offensive on them. A lot of people think that PETA are a group of crazy people who want us all not to eat meat or wear leather and believe that Animals are way more important than people. Not true: most people at PETA feel that wearing cow leather and pig leather is ok, because cows and pigs go along way to feeding populations throughout the world, and while they are killed for their life saving meat, there hides can be used to make leather goods. How ever, there is a smaller section of the group who are a bit more militant and believe all animal killing should be outlawed, but that section does not reflect the attitude of the whole group. Even though they are all one group, you can never get both sides to get along and one sides activities often overshadows the others. If you need an example of what I am talking about, think of the Democratic party (how many different beliefs can exist in one group). While cow and pig meat go along way into helping feed the population, fox, mink, sable, Chinchillas are not killed for anything but high fashion. Thats why PETA spends so much time on working to stop people from taking the life of an animal just to look like a ASSHOLE.

I never had much respect for this gimmick driven cum bucket, but now my thoughts of her have sank to a new low. Come on people we all know she only got her record deal, not because she was talented, but because she was the best at giving Chad and Pharell blowjobs in a recording both. Second, no where in the PETA letter did it ask her to stop eating meat, so for her to bring up the fact that she likes meat was a stupid point also. While she was writing songs about how she hates a guy because he cheated on her after she gave him a blow job, she never once made a song about the womens rights and all the other things she said are better causes for the PETA people to concentrate on. BUT WAIT THERES MORE: she said she would never wear fur from indangered animals, well stupid, thats how animals become indangered, because people kill them one by one over time, and before you know it, there are none of them left. She should look up the dodo bird who became extinked in the late 17th centuray because people liked to use there feathers in hats (get it, high fashion). She should look up how people moving westward almost killed off the American Buffalo one by one. I do however blame PETA for one thing, they should not have waisted energy writing a washed up has been (if you can even call her that) who is living off the back of NAS child support checks.
