Today while appearing on the Oprah show for her special on Haiti Wyclef had this message for the people trying to help his country which was hit by another strong 6.1 aftershock today for the wrong reasons:
“The Haitian people told me specifically when I was coming on your show to tell people, ‘Stop with the photo ops…Haiti don’t need no more photo ops.”

the war in vietnam in a way was ended because of the “photo ops.” haiti needs more than the photo ops yes, but they def need photo ops to show the world the devastation.
Exactly the world over needs to see the devastation that is. So in a way it helps.
He is an asshole and he acts like he owns Haiti. He has been there for 7 years and the shit he is telling the US to do why hasn’t he done it with that shady ass foundation.

You sound ridiculous. The extreme poverty of Haiti before this earthquake was cause for concern and wyclef has been the best advocate they have. Who are other prominent figures in our culture that have ties to Haiti?…..thought so. And don’t worry about his foundation that he started with his own funds and is audited annually. CNN showed him on the streets with his wife picking up bodies and he had tears pouring out. He is on the ground with the smell of death and streets full of orphans.
He is saying that the graphic images have been captured and everyone around the world understands the severe devastation. Now put the cameras down and start helping people pick up their lives! There isn’t much else to report on …the situation is fubar.

Television and the images it brought home actually caused the U.S. to lose the Vietnam War. So the statements here are less than factual. I agree with Wyclef on this one. It seems all these celebrities are just trying to make themselves look good. Im not saying ALL of them but some are definetly taking advantage of the photo op. If it is so important to show the images how come a bigger deal wasnt made of the tsunamis in Indonesia. More people died there in one fell swoop than in Haiti so for. Not to put one tragedy against the other but i just find it contradictory that we have all these telethons and celebrities asking for donations and making their own donations public.

and again you ass hole bc i just read the rest of your statement, just as gupta said today the tsunamis was like a hit and run. you either died or you didnt and it was a horrible situation but most injuries wasnt crazy and the most aid they needed was food and water. in haiti people’s house collapsed on them. there arent any proper hospitals and people who need aid have to walk miles to get it. or just walk around without any care at all. he went on to say people are dying from kidney failures, he even had to operate on a childs brain that had concrete embedded into it. please get your facts right, you are really making yourself look real ignorant.
further more, its not one swoop that is hitting haiti, they are still getting “aftershocks” but an after shock that magnitude is 6.1 is a damn earthquake. so haiti is still being hit by earthquakes. you ignorant ass people in this page really just annoyed the crap out of me.
You are right on! These people don’t understand jack and they believe everything the media puts in front of them. Another thing that bugged te hell out of me was Anderson Cooper (AND OTHERS) walking around and capturing personal stories, all the while not doing jack to lift a hand. I could have whipped his a$$ when some lady walked over to him and said her daughter was back there in the rubble… he looked at the camera man and said let’s get some other reaction. Him and his crew didn’t lift one finger and they were all supposed to be grown as men. Today ( Thurs) the camera crew went to a remote site where it was a nursing home and they were told they hadn”t received any water, etc. Now you know the crew been eating and drinking all week. Did they bring anything with them (you know they gotta drink water in that 95 degree heat); if anything, they could have COMMUNICATED with someone about the situation. I have had it with the media that just wants to swoop in for photo ops but they’re a$$e$ ain’t good for nothing else. AND, why are they on Wyclef, when they been using their donations since ’95 and there’s no evidence they they helped these people, ‘cuz it don’t take 15 years for somebody to make a proposal to improve the living conditions of these people. I think they just used Haiti, poor counting in Africa and South America as write-’offs). Just my opinion. Like Ed Lover says, “C’MON, SON”!

haiti the numbers 8 days later are over 72 thousand. and thats not the official count. it doesnt count the numbers the united nations have buried or those bodies that were buried by their families. i have to agree with real talk. and the indian doctor on oprah said this is by far the worst case he’s ever seen so i agree with him as well. i dont know about celebrities… but does their motives really mater? if you don’t want to donate okay but really if they are in the position to help, even if its for photo ops i see nothing wrong with that.
if you read Wyclefs statement carefully you’ll see he says this is what he’s hearing from Haitians. Unless the commentors above are on the ground in Haiti as well your insight doesn’t mean much, too me at least.

I like Wyclef and all but i think he needs to be happy and greatful that so many people( and mostly just regular 9 to 5 americans) are coming out their pocket to help in a recession! I know that i went without lunch one day last week so i could give what i could to Haiti. He sat on Oprah and complained that we were dropping food on his people like they are animals. Well brother, when there is no other way for plans and coppers to land the food MUST be dropped to get to the people. If there was a disaster in DC, i would not give two shits which way the food got to me as long as someone was helping me out!
It is not up to Wyclef or Oprah to make the moves as people under one scope should be making… those are children with pure souls… I saw a photo of three boys on cnn and the one in the middle with such a sincere and joyful smile in the midst of the chaos… how tender and full of hope he solely gave me more drive to appreciate what I have and give what luxury I need not… haiti, africa, etc… for now it is necessity… but soon haiti will fall back into the need of education to help those children help themselves and others out of dependency… my mind boggles with the notion chavez has presented… if so… God help us as citizens of this country… for that in itself is beyond the works of the devil…
It’s really hard to digest everything that has happened… Wyclef does have a point, but information does need to make it around the world. How do you expect to receive as much aid as possible, but deny a way to televise what is going on? If someone wants to donate, solely because they saw their favorite actor/ actress there, then so be it. Some people aren’t as selfless as others and myself. I don’t see it as a way for celebs to look better, but to make a point to say I have a strong enough career to help make a difference and to make more people follow. I myself hate the media sometimes, solely based on things said or the type of stuff they waste their time on reporting. I hope all types of news doesn’t take this sad situation and see dollar signs.
i was REALLY upset with wyclef lying about not spending the foundation money on personal reason! you just filed taxes and we have proof and the BBB dont lie! he sounded very ungrateful yesterday on the oprah show instead OF THANKING THE AMERICANS for helping out even though we all are hurting from our economy he chose to complain and what not which made me mad!! he was in haiti for a day and a half and you really care go back and do some work with the money (THATS WHAT YOUR SUPPOSE TO DO WITH THE MONEY). he said, “we dont want tents we want homes, they should put me in charge of the American army (we saw what you did before with the supplies and money why would they allow that to happen), stop dropping the food on my ppl like they are animals” where should the planes land wyclef??! oh yeah they dont have a place to land hes rude, gross and im pissed at him from the oprah interview!!!
I agree with you. I am really tired of Wycleff complaining and telling Obama what he MUST do. Who the hell is he? “We need to evacuate 2 million people from Haiti. If I tell them to go they will go”. WTF? He charged his own foundation $100,000 for a concert, but he wants us to believe he is all for his people and he is their leader? Is he complaining about the Haitians that threw crackers on the ground because they thought they were stale (which they weren’t, they read the wrong date on the package)? Even if they were stale, you and your children haven’t eaten in 4 damn days and you throw food on the floor? What does a stale cracker do to you? But he is not talking about that is he? Media needs to stop talking to his ignorant ass and talk to some officials. His complaining is going to turn a lot of people off and the support and donations will stop. I refuse to believe that he is speaking for a majority of the Haitian people. I refuse to believe that a majority of the Haitian people who have lost everything are sitting around complaining about support and aid that people are giving them.
