On Sunday the AABA, an Atlanta based basketball league which will include “players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race” announced that it will begin its inaugural season this June. League officials have been hoping to include Augusta, Georgia as one of their 12 teams but naturally logical people everywhere are up in arms about this – according to the Augusta Chronicle:
Don “Moose” Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league’s roster restrictions is not racism.
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.”
Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball” played by “people of color.” He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas’ indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans’ dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.
“Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?” he said. “That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”
We know we just gave these guys some free publicity but no responsible sponsor will touch this anyway so good luck getting your league off the ground….

Well…Don Lewis is correct there on one thing because the violence riddled in the NBA and any sport for that matter, on or off the premise of a field, court, etc is strictly based on the inclusion of “people of color” (Sarcasm). He makes it even more clear as to how he isn’t a bigot of any sort because “I don’t hate anyone of color” and clearly stating the obvious should cause people who think otherwise to rest assured that he has the right intentions for this league of his (Sarcasm).
I mean…can you blame him for viewing Caucasian males as lacking the ability to compete with “people of color” in the NBA when it comes to be drafted from college? Well, the laws have changed and yet the views remain the same in 2010. Such a disgusting world we have…especially with people like Lewis making such statements as his reasoning above.

I saw a piece on this league on the Daily Show tonight (3/29), it took me at least 10 minutes to get my jaw off the ground. Old Moose claimed to be a victim of racism, but really shows more like he’s the kid who was no good and wanted to ‘take his ball and go home.’ He goes so far as to concede that blacks are better than whites at basketball, and ignores that has little to nothing to do with race. Why are there more whites in hockey? It all has to do with access and opportunity, look at the only sport with broad international appeal: Soccer. Soccer teams are typically demographically representative of the nation which it’s played.
