The official announcement is expected to be made some time this morning but word has already leaked that Conan O’Brien has taken NBC’s payout of about $32.5 million -which doesn’t include the $50 they wasted to build him a new studio – in exchange for leaving his post on the Tonight Show and not being able to work for another network until September 1st.

“In the end, Conan was appreciative of the steps NBC made to take care of his staff and crew and decided to supplement the severance they were getting out of his own pocket. Now he just wants to get back on the air as quickly as possible,” said Conan’s manager Gavin Polone yesterday.

Hollywood insiders are saying that Conan is already in heavy negotiations with Fox for his own show.
