It’s weird seeing Jay Leno not try to be funny, but it’s no wonder why, Oprah said in a survey of her viewers on 4% were team Leno. Check out a clip of his interview where he admitted that NBC initially asked him to step down years back because Conan was getting offers at another network and they wanted to lock him in and also reveals that he has no control over programming decisions, Conan just didn’t have the ratings.
If you think this is as entertaining as we another clip after the jump, tell us one more time you’re team Coco and how you think Oprah’s interview was?

A truly complicated situation. Of course, the Jay Leno Show was not that bad as a lead-in but it was, as Jay said, basically late-night at 10pm. So if you have late-night at 10, why should you watch more late-night at 11.35? Leno always had better ratings than Conan because his lead-in not only had high ratings but it also wasn’t another late-night show, it was drama. I assume that, if Conan would have had drama series as lead-ins, he would have had higher ratings. IMHO NBC made a mistake giving Leno a prime time show thinking it wouldn’t affect the Tonight Show’s ratings. Aaaand Jay had 5 years to prepare his departure, he should’ve just said no when he was asked to do the prime time show. He should have moved on to another network, maybe take the whole crew with him. If I’m told (5 years in advance) that I’ll get fired because my boss is trying to keep another employee instead of me, of whom my boss is convinced that this person (in the future) will do my job just as good or even better than me, although I am number one, I’d be a fool to believe that I’m such a valuable asset to the company and I’d try to find a way to move on.
On a personal note, I must say that Jay disappointed me because he didn’t have the guts to talk to Conan throughout this whole mess. You consider yourself a friend of his and you don’t think it’s ‘appropriate’ to pick up the phone and give him a call? Seriously? What a weak excuse.
