The Isaac Foundation Comes To John Mayer’s Defense

by admin on 02/15/2010 · 16 comments

The Isaac Foundation which raises money for children who are fighting a rare enzyme deficiency known as MPS VI, did a nice job on capitalizing off the publicity surrounding John Mayer’s comments to Playboy magazine to defend the star.  Here’s an excerpt of thier blog called “In Defense Of John Mayer“:

I thought I would take to our blog to write a quick defense of John Mayer, someone that I have grown to respect for the kind, caring, and compassionate person that he truly is.

I don’t care what Playboy Magazine writes about the man, and I don’t care what John says to the journalists that write what they do about him.  In America, it’s all part of the game – get in people magazine, light up the blogosphear, stay relevant – end of story.

I recognize that John plays the game better than most because he’s one of the most written about celebrities on the planet.  I know he has said things that turn people off.  I know he’s said things that make him sound like someone you would never want your children around – ever.  But I also know the person that he truly is and the good things he tries to accomplish with the celebrity status he’s achieved.

Although I’m clearly a biased individual, the wonderful things he has done for my son Isaac stand out as some of his best charitable work.  And I feel that he does it out of a true love for our son and the hope to help us find a cure for him.  The genuine time he gives him during his stops here in Canada, the warm reception he gives Isaac each time he sees him, and the special way he makes my son feel is something that I will always appreciate the man for.

And for Ellen and I, the feeling of hope he gives us and the feeling that we are making a real difference on the road to finding a cure for Isaac is all that matters.  Write what you want about John, think what you will, but before you hand down your verdict on what kind of person he really is, please consider the good he has done in his life.

I’m typing this away as I snuggle up with the boys.  They had a fun day at the hospital, came home and made John a Valentine to give him on Sunday.   They are looking forward to seeing John at his concert in Toronto.  A few minutes ago I asked Isaac to tell me three words he would use to describe John and he responded “Nice, Friendable, and Loveable”.  Print that bloggers, and give John his fair shake.

With Love,

The Isaac Foundation

So…….is John out of the hot water yet? Was he ever in it???

I think that John Mayer displayed a momentary lapse of judgment; which he apologized, a few times, for. It’s happened to all of us, at some time or another. He’s only human, like the rest of us. Personally, I forgive him. Life goes on.

Bullshit. So, John Mayer (a White man) can use the word ‘n*gger’, talk about the sexual escapades of a former (sort-of-still) famous ex-girlfriend and make jokes about a Black woman being free with giving out hummers and we get someone defending him. But, Isiah Washington allegedly uses a gay slur and Kanye ‘hurts the feelings’ of Taylor Swift and they’re banished to the Land of Nod? Y’all don’t see what’s going on?

Quite honestly, I think that everything that John said was purely for shock value to receive publicity. You’re only as relevant as the last story that you’ve appeared in, when it comes to the entertainment industry. I can agree with you that what he said was ignorant, there’s no doubt about that. For which, he was held accountable for his statements, which he gave a public apology. Like I said earlier, I believe that it was a momentary lapse of judgment that (hopefully) won’t be repeated.

Although, I can agree with you that the media, as well as the masses blew the Isaiah Washington & Kanye West situations way out of proportion. & I do believe that it would be a double standard to condemn them, but let Mayer completely off the hook. However, I was never on the bandwagon to condemn either of them to begin with. People are inherently fallible from time to time – no one is perfect. I believe that the people who condemned Isaiah & Kanye & refused to forgive them – even to this day – have far greater underlying issues that they refuse to admit, publically. From the way that they went after them, you would’ve thought that they had murdered someone. I never agreed with or participated in that. I say that we live/let live, learn from our mistakes & move on.

You think calling someone a “cracker” is the same as calling someone “nigger”? It is not that simple and you know it.

same disrespect is ment they don’t call you cracker because they love you if you mean blacks feel it deeper because of what their fore father went though and it tends to roll off our back’s maybe I use neither word or a lot of other we still have to get past this we are all on the same playing feild now anybody say’s different just useing it as a reason for their failure

Absolutely. Both are derogatory slurs for people with either black or white skin. For people that let mere words bother them, bot would be considered offensive.
