What Were Your Thoughts On Tiger Woods’ Apology Speech??

by admin on 02/19/2010 · 36 comments

This thing was like the Super Bowl the way the networks covered it. Today after much anticipation golfer Tiger Woods spoke to the world about the incident with his wife on Thanksgiving night that shattered his world in a “highly controlled press event”. At the press conference Tiger admitted he is sorry and says that he and his wife Elin “have a lot to discuss” but will be working it out personally.  He also stressed that his wife never hit him and domestic violence has never been an issue in his house so she deserves “praise not blame” for his “repeated irresponsible behavior” because he had an affair and cheated.

To his fans Tiger says he owes them “a special apology” for letting down the parents and kids who looked up to him and in an attempt to solve his problem he’s been in therapy for the past 45 days.  Holding back sniffles the golfer added that he hopes the media will leave his family alone because he doesn’t appreciate people following his wife, going to his kids school or staking out his mom.

Tiger ended the press conference which was about 15 minutes long saying he may return to golf but is not sure when and asked everyone watching to “find room in their heart to one day believe in him” before hugging his mom.

So in the history of apologies…how did Tiger do???

Yes, tiger wood is in the wrong about cheating and everything but I am totally against having him doing a public apology to everyone. Tigers is still a good golf player irregardless of everything and nobody can take that away from him. All this matter is a private subject between him and his family, and i don’t think he should have to apologize to the World…….

You are so right. The media should leave him alone and let him work out his issues with his family.

Personally, I don’t really care. I know it asked what you thought of the speech, but I truthfully doesn’t care. This is just too much idolatry by the American public and media. I know he’s a public figure, I know his fame/revenue stream is given by the fans and sponsorship…but I truthfully don’t care. He is a man, all men have their demons in one way or another. Some smoke, cheat, others may feel superior towards their partner, etc…but truthfully, please get over this fiasco. I love how the glass house is throwing stones at the one next door. Such a shame how the man is being ridiculed/judged on all outlets when they perform the same or worse…heck, we had male politicians involved in sex scandal with boys, Iran on the verge of gathering nuclear weapons, a growing threat in Afghanistan, horrible financial relations with China, Washington in chaos since neither party wishes to work with one another…and what we see everyday is Tiger.

I didn’t watch it nor cared to…EVER. get over it

Tiger,
That was a heart felt apology, no matter how the press would like to analyse it. I feel that your personel life is yours and belongs to you. I know that golf is about integrity, honesty and humility, and that you have to represent this to all who follow you. People have to realize that you are human and that human temptations are yours too. Any other ordinary man who has done the things that you have, would not be given a second look.
It is unfortunate that this personal matter was put into the public, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. You spoke of being a Bubist and I believe that something had to happen to bring you back to your balance. Your apology brought me to tears and I do believe that you are truely sorry and not just because you got caught.
I wish you all the best in your recovery and all the best to your family.
Take care and I believe in you

Foremost, I understand that people w/ exceptional talent and stature based on their talent – in this instance…Tiger Woods – are socially held to a higher standard than let’s say “Ronny” from Jersey Shore…this withstanding, we should be as forgiving as we are critical…it is IMPOSSIBLE…yes, IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO BE CRITICAL…everyone judges every and ANY thing simply by forming an opinion on it…however, the next step should be casting that opinion away/keeping it to yourself unless you’re asked what your opinion is and even STILL you should be more critical of what you SAY rather than what you are speaking on…the minute you IMPOSE your view on someone else (as I am doing right now) it becomes open to perception and as we well know people’s perception differ substantially and you (as well as I have to accept w/e comes from that cause WE put it out there)…with all that said – Tiger should not have HAD to publicly apologize BUT if he hadn’t then he’d have NO SHOT at regaining any spec of a normal life…he also (IMO) should NOT have READ an APOLOGY…there is NO SINCERITY in reading “i’m so sorry”…in the event that any public figure ever has to publicly apologize for something they shouldn’t have to publicly apologize for (and we all know it’ll happen again) I HOPE that they simply speak from their heart – NOT from a piece of paper…b/c ultimately that piece of paper & that apology will hold the same amount of weight…NONE!

The only people he owes an apology is his family….Period
The media will only disect his statement to bits and then TELL the viewers how he felt or what he meant.

I don’t think he owed the world an apology. Maybe it’s time for the world to start apologing to the celeb’s they put on un-realistic pedestals. It truly amazes me. The one line that summed up everything was “I felt a sense of entitlement” This sense of entitlement allowed him to engage in this behavior guilt free. It’s in his best interest that he got caught. He was dealing in very risky behavior that could have truly changed his life and his wife’s life forever, in a deadly disease sought of way. I hope Tiger can heal and grow. I hope that he can practice restraint going forward as the va-j- j will still be thrown his way. Probably more so now. “In the marriage vows for better or worse” I guess this situation would apply to the worse. Hang in there Elin. Tiger show and prove.

oh and by the way, the apology wasn’t because he felt a duty to apologize to the world. It was about business. Anybody who understands business, understands he had to make a public statement to ease back into what he does best. Play Golf

Tiger owes no one an apology but his wife. So for him to get up their and apology to everyone on the planet, he is an idiot.

He should have kept his mouth shut and just went back to playing golf.

That’s really all people care about anyway.

Now with this dumb ass press conference, it just stirs everything all back up.

The only reason why he is coming back out is that those damn sponsors realized how much money they are losing while Tiger is not playing.

Believe me, its all about money

not my sport so… I don’t really follow too much… my only concern is young men and women who look up to him… all else is irrevelant…. elin… good or not… chic knows the risk of such high profile so I don’t sympathize too much… sad, but true… hopefully, there is some kind of lesson learned for someone, somewhere… that is all… (((lesson: don’t read an apology))))):)

Rich people think they have a ticket to bad behavior because they are wealthy, well their wealth doesn’t pay in some other places we all live. All i can say is, it is good to hear someone take responsibility and say their behavior was inappropriate, because cheating at any economic level, hurts someone, and pain is the same all the way around. People look up to you rich people, and if you can do it, why can’t they?

Tiger should have just came out and said “I’m sorry for fucking several women, that really nobody gave a shit about. Some were gold digging losers. Some were porn star losers. I tried to keep my shit intact but you know how hoes are! I especially apologize to my wife for having a child with you knowing that I didn’t give a shit about you. I basically wifed you out of pity. To my child, I shall protect you from the harsh world for as long as I can. To my fans. I ain’t no damn role model. Just play hard and practice harder to achieve you goals. To my mother, i’m sorry. I am a human being with flaws just like everybody else, except I got mad paper and hella skills on the green! Thanks for listening. Peace out bitches!”

I was not going to comment on this because who cares who tiger is sleeping with! BUT after hearing and reading all the comments made about him today shows me WHY AMERICA IS THE DUMBEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD! We are morons worrying about someone personal life. Those who have not sinned please cast the fist stone. I’LL WAIT! Damn when will this country realize everything in the magic lil box (Televison) is not reality and stop making people what they are not. Unless you are in his immediate circle you don’t know what he really is like.

Why should he apologize to the world? He didn’t do shyt to any of US!!

Tiger Woods, the human being who happens to be the world’s greatest golfer,
apologized to his Mom and family, his beautiful wife, his fans and sponsors, but
never once offered an empathetic word to his victims – the many women whom he conned, lied and deceived and hurt – until that happens publicly – I believe he only regrets that he stupidly got caught.
