Not only is Perry’s work weak & unfunny, but it’s also super duper stereotypical & borderline unrealistic. It’s corny, man. I’ve watched the movies & the I’ve seen episodes of his TBS shows. Shit is horrific, man. It’s just what Spike Lee calls it – coonery & buffoonery.
lol @ any of this man’s work really being uplifting & thoughtful. The only reason he’s being praised is because people have been naive enough to make this man a hundred millionaire. Granted, he’s worked hard & deserves his money…but don’t try to tell me that his work is powerful, groundbreaking or uplifting. Please!
i agree about the spike lee jab. tyler perry still on that dumb christian indoctrination shit though. and what spike said has merit, some of perry’s shit is buffonery
yeah we do need to own our own shit but his writing on TBS does SUCK! Only movies he did that were decent were “daddys little girl” and “why did marry a gay man” , i mean get married.
When white people make enormous amounts of money from stupid shows like Seinfeld, Friends and Everybody loves Raymond it’s okay. When black people fill a need for a niche audience and makes a lot of money, everybody is hating on them. It’s ridiculous! The hip hop community has elevated Lil Wayne and Tyler Perry has done a hell of a lot more to uplift “Black People” then he has. When was the last time black actors of every shade were able to get movie rolls back to back before Tyler Perry?
