New Jersey Instates “Kyleigh’s Law!”

by admin on 03/25/2010 · 45 comments

New Jersey’s new Kyleigh’s Law that goes into effect this March requires drivers under the age of 21 to put a little red decal in the upper left hand corner of their license plates as shown above.  The law came into play when Kyleigh D’Alessio was killed in a car accident at age 16 by another young professional driver with multiple passengers.  If drivers under 21 don’t display the red decal on their license plates the fine is $100.

Do you agree with this new law New Jersey LIFERS???

Nope, there are many persons under the age of 21 that are excellent drivers. And they will be unfairly targeted now. Old people should have to do the same then

I don’t get how this law satisfies the family. Now the only difference is if the car that a young driver has, hits, and kills someone; it will have a red sticker on the licsense plate….?

aleis 03/25/2010 at 1:36 PM

yes.
and i will stay away from them!
i drove illegally since i was 13 and i was wreckless!
when i was able to get my license at 16 i had 10k in tickets. i didnt get my license until 25 :)
but…i drove every day since i was 13.

I’m from france and we have kind of the same system, we have a red “A” sticker on the back of our car during two years after we get our licence.

so whats the red tag gonna do>? if a car is gonna hit you..you’re magically gonna be saved because you see the red decal?? how in the fuck do you avoid an accident just by having that shit?

they’re not putting bright neon decals on drunk drivers but they’re steady going after stupid shit like this…. i bet this was a result of something that happened to a white kid who’s parents have bank..they always feel the need to impose their grief on others to make themselves feel better..fuck outta here…

right, white people definitely got this stupidity passed. Now all the new drivers are gonna be fair game for police. That’s just bullshit…It’s bad enough the system is completely against the drivers from the insurance companies, to the cops, to the courts….now a Scarlet Letter? Only in Jersey would they do this dumb shit.

fuck you. i am sorry for your loss but this is rediculous. girls especially are going to be targeted now for rape. what is the percentages of people getting in car accidents with more than one person in the car compared to kids who drink an have one person in the car? what about family members? this whole situation is a nice idea but it benefits nobody. this is the worst fucking law ever created.

So now everyone has yet another law to break, taking the sticker off…..talk about ridiculous…..the girl was in a car with 6 other people, on someones lap, with no seatbelt, and alcohol was involved….like really??? …..thanks to this every person under 21 has to deal with this absurd law….they broke the law with pure stupidity, why does everyone else have to deal with someone else’s bs? THANKS CORZINE

This law is terrible. Just gives rapist easier way to target people….we cant make laws just to accomodate one families grief…maybe if they would have raised their daughter correctly she would have learned not to get into a car illegally. I personally do not agree at all

Reply

Anonymous 05/12/2010 at 6:10 PM

It doesn’t matter how one is raised, regardless, they’re still going to break rules and sometimes do even more severe things. That has nothing to do with parents. On the contrary, it is a stupid idea to give red decals to young girls and expect no chaos. However, they’re getting rid of this because 5 girls have already gotten raped and killed

Mike 03/31/2010 at 9:52 PM

This law is stupid. Why don’t u just make us wear helmets and knee pads while we drive. I just got my liscene and i follow the rules, i wear my seat belt, i don’t speed, so why not target me. I feel this law will cause more accidents because of those jerks trying to run us off the road and could cause a kid to panic and accidently drive off the road. Then what New Jersey?

Reply

Anonymous 04/12/2010 at 12:46 PM

If you are targeting young drivers, then i think you should target OLD people they are worse drivers than the kids and lets not forget all the DRUNK drivers.

I must first say that I am very sorry for the loss of Kyleigh. That being said, she isn’t the only person who was ever killed in an automobile accident. She was 16 and she was drinking with other kids in a car. Very irresponsible kids. Now the rest of New Jersey has to pay the consequences for the bad choice this girl made. I have a 17 year old daughter who works and schools at night. She is rarelyl home before 11 on those nights. She is tiny and often alone. I will not put a sticker on her car. I will not let people know she is 17 and alone on the road. I will pay the fines. Her life is worth more to me than dollars. Which is the real reason for this law. New Jersey is bankrupt and in dire straits. I’m not paying for their corruption any more.

wish you were my mom…my mom is like trying to see both sides…my dad totally disagrees with this law and said he plans to postpone getting me the stickers as long as he can…i wonder why though if she was driving by herself, if she was, SHES BREAKING THE OWN DAMN LAW CAUSE AT 16 YOU ONLY HAVE YOUR PERMIT AND ARENT ALLOWED TO DRIVE ALONE! SHES ALSO A TEENAGER HERSELF! EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES! WE LEARN FROM THEM! THAT’S WHAT WILL MAKE US BETTER DRIVERS…LEARNING FROM OUR MISTAKES!

this is just going to result in more accidents, rapes, and danger. say your car is parked in a parking lot at night, a guy or guys are creeping around looking for the stickers on the license plate knowing that the stickers represent kids under 21 ..easy target.. i just got my license and i know if im walking to a car at night i wont be able to defend myself if a predator is watching close by. im sorry but this law should have been thought through more clearly because obvioulsy they didnt look at the negative effects..not that there are even positive ones cause this law is a joke!

i would rather spend 100 dollars than risk my life putting that fucking red sticker on my car. who ever made this law is a jackass…

YOU KNO WHO SHOULD HAVE RED SSTICKERS OR BETTER YET GET THEIR DRIVERS LICENSE RETAKEN ARE OLD PEOPLE!!!! THEY HAVE NOOOO REFLEXES AND ARE A DANGER TO OTHERS .. ALL PEOPLE OF ALL AGES CAN GET INTO ACCIDENTS. THE OLDER THE not BETTER.. JUST CAUSE WE ARE NEW DRIVERS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE ALL BAD DRIVERS. JUST CAUSE SOME STUPID TEENAGERS GOT IN AN ACCIDENT THEY MAKE ALL PEOPLE UNDER 21 SUFFER.. COULDNT THEY HAVE MADE UP A BETTER SOLTION??… I THINK SO

Reply

unknown 05/07/2010 at 4:46 PM

actually they were starting to! I RATHER THEM JUST PUSH THE PERMIT BACK TO 17 AND THE PROVISIONAL LICENSE TO 18! STATICS SAY 18 YEAR OLDS MAKE BETTER DECISIONS WHENT THEY FIRST GET THEIR LICENSE THEN A 17 YEAR OLD DOES WITH A YEAR OF EXPERIENCE! THERES A SOLUTION!

If I may be so daring and bold, I would liken this to placing yellow stars on Jews in Germany during World War 2 and we all saw how that turned out…As a 20 year old New Jersey resident going to school in Pennsylvania, this is an unfair discrimination towards our age group, especially since we can’t drink under 21. Over 21 is really who you should watch out for.

I am appalled that the wailings of parents because of the unfortunate accident caused such a horrible piece of legislation to go into effect.

Jon Corzine, you are an asshole and I hope the door hits you on the way out. Hard. So that you tumble down a flight of stairs preferably.

ISNT ANYONE AT ALL CONCERNED FOR THE 17 YEAR OLD GIRLS AT RISK FOR RAPE? SINCE THEY ARE CLEARLY IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES AS NEW YOUNG DRIVERS.

Reply

anonymous 04/30/2010 at 9:31 PM

this is the worst possible law that could ever be created. its not are fault that a girl gets in a car with alcohol involved and gets into an accident, she broke the law. you should have raised you daughter right then fucking retard. not all young drivers are bad drivers, now we have to waste are money and time. i wonder if they no that there are a lot of teenagers that work past 11 in restaurants. so what now when they leave there work they will be pulled over because its too late? absolutely ridiculous. you just caused a huge riot to happen…

Reply

pissed off 05/03/2010 at 10:28 PM

i completly agree with the person above. this law benefits no one. like ABSOLUTLY NO ONE. what does it do? lets really think about this.. it helps cops know if there are too many people in the car? woohoo. it also gives ass hole cops a good reason to pull some one over when they’re bored. As a 17 yr old, let me tell you how vulnerable and unsafe it makes me feel.. sitting at a light or driving down the road and EVERYONE knowing that you’re a young driver. People like to harass young drivers, incase the stupid politicians that passed this law didnt know. and i work till 9:30 and sometimes need to stay an extra hour and a half to clean up.. so what now i cant drive home from my job? whatever. this isnt going to prevent ANY car accidents. its just another law for teens to break.

its not everyone under 21. I am 19 and i dont need it.

Reply

unknown 05/07/2010 at 5:02 PM

YEAH BUT SOON OTHERS WILL BE 19 WITH STICKERS ON THERE CARS BECAUSE THIS DOESNT APPLY TO PEOPLE WHO GOT THEIR LICENSE BEFORE MAY 1ST! AND AFTER 2 YEARS OF THIS LAW I WILL BE 19 WITH A STICKER ON MY LICENSE PLATE! SO IT WILL SOON BE APPLIED TO UP TO 20 YEAR OLDS!

How about we come up with more colors? Yellow for drunk, blue for elderly, green for wreckless, purple for deaf, etc. Oh, wait — that’s profiling, and that’s illegal!

And what’s up with the follow-up bill? No driving after 11pm, in some cases until you’re 21. NJ is messed up!

this law is very pointless. red stickers would not have said kyleigh’s life then nor will they save future kyleighs. she was killed because the previous law was BROKEN… so why would amendments then have to be made? it is not fair to punish all young adults because of a foolish few. moms in vans are far more prone to speed and aggression while driving give THEM red stickers PLEASE. furthermore, at it is not fair for college students, etc. to have a time restriction placed on them. my school is 4 hrs away from home. as a commuter this seriously limits the time i can spend with my family to remain within curfew. if i can get married, have children, legally own my own apartment, work and pay full taxes — as well as being able to be drafted into war — i should be allowed to have as many people in my car as i want (my kids?) and to stay out on the streets as late as i want. im tired of watching my priveleges being slowly sapped away. SCREW THIS LAW!
