Kick-Ass Opens Strong!

by admin on 04/18/2010 · 6 comments

Kick-Ass couldn’t take How To Train Your Dragon from the #1 spot, but it did open with $19.7 Million its first weekend in theaters.  Following two spots behind was Death At A Funeral – the comedy starring Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock that raked in $17 Million this weekend to claim the #4 spot.  According to the box-office charts it seems as though movie goers want to laugh since Date Night starring Tina Fey and Steve Carrell is #3 this week too.

this is a good movie…for what it is at least…lol. Its funny, theres real action, and its alot more violent than I thought it would be. If youre skeptical I’d definitely consider watching online.

The comic book is insanely violent so the film was watered down on that front. The film was definitely entertaining without trying to compare itself with the paper medium. Although, there are many changes from the comic book but the film was good nonetheless.

Opened strong? Do you know anything about the movie industry, tracking and projections? Lionsgate projected $30 million opening weekend and competitors had this coming in as high as $35 million. The 19.7 million is not strong by any means. Lionsgate will barely break even on this as they spent well over $40 million on P&A alone. Get your facts straight before making such a claim.
