How much better would we be than MTV during its origin, if the channel didn’t support someone simply based on their “race?” LAME! I don’t listen to his music but he’s pretty popular at the time and he’s a new artists…so, that should fit the bill no?

I think some of you people are missing the point. Benzino predicted this about 8 years ago and he was right with his predictions. Black music is dying a painful death and we are just accepting this bullshit. The major record labels put this kid in position along with Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, etc to be the big stars of the moment. BET is owned by Viacom (white people) and it’s getting to the point where there won’t be any new black artists (Drake?) being released in the next few years. I mean Jay-Z, Beyonce and Alicia Keys are all 10+ years in the game…wake up people! They even got Usher to back this kid! Are you fools blind to whets going on in your faces? Here’s a question: would BET have nominated this kid even 2 years ago when Jennifer Hudson won?

There’s not much humor here because there are posts throughout the web not related to a tonight show asking why BET would permit his entry into a category. Responses on this particular post, if similar to mine, are in relation to the overall questioning of his entrance, not the clip by Jimmy. Nonetheless, if MTV had an award show where none of the entrants were Black, people would be up in arms. Interesting double standard. It shouldn’t matter what he sings about, the title is “Best New Artist,” not “Best New Artist that must sing traditional Hip-Hop/R&B.” People were up in arms when Justin Timberlake appeared years ago on the channel. I don’t watch BET nor care for any of its award shows.
I dont hink its his race because people dont say anything about Robin Thicke or Justin Timberlake. Its because he is white and makes teeny bobber music and fanbase is little white girls. I think he deserved it tho cuz he is popular enough with the young kids that watch BET nowadays.

What’s the big fucking deal? The BET awards are bullshit from beginning to end and don’t mean anything anyway. It’s not like if this kid wins he’ll be defeating some super talented black kid. This show will be filled with nominations of untalented bafoons, amateur acts, and bullshit categories. So what if one happens to be a white pop artist this year.

BET is lame anyway. I really don’t care. Anyone can be nominated for this award, whether it is a white pop/R&B singer, or a chinese rapper….It doesn’t matter. What matters is the music. And besides…he’s a new artist, nominated for the Best New Artist category…hmm…I think I see a connection.
