With all of the hype surrounding the new Sex And The City movie… we were almost sure that it would knock Shrek Forever After from the top spot, but that wasn’t the case.  SATC:2 raked in $32 Million its opening weekend to Shrek Forever After’s $43.4 Million it’s second week in theaters.

Did you LIFERS go to the movies this Memorial Day weekend???

obvious, memorial day weekend, family time, family movie. no one’s gonna take their kids to see SATC, come on!

The bad reviews really did the damage for Sex and the City. I was eager to see it but so many people told me that it was horrible.

Quite simple really, the movie was panned horribly and the weekend was gearing up for exposure during a time family had the chance to get away with one another…mom, dad, son and daughter. Shrek may not have been the best rated film as well but it’s the only film parents could take their children to see during this weekend. That meant Prince of Persia nor Sex had a chance. Prince of Persia was rather mediocre and nothing as fantastical as I know by playing the games. It couldve done well because the premise is darn near Pirates but no Depp or Bloom, so the masses didn’t really care. Shrek lost its glory for me but it was still okay.

because the first one was a major disappointment people got all dressed up and made a night of it (shopping, dinner w/ friends, etc.) and all for nothing. i’m so glad i didn’t care enough to do all that $hit.

they hyped up Sex 2 so much and showed damn near every scene on every other channel. overkill. people couldn’t take it anymore. it may be worth renting, but everyone is over SATC movies and watching old tv episodes.

Well it still made good money, but i’m very suprised that it did’nt come in at number 1. There were alot of people that said it was good too.

Shrek requires at least one parent to take their child(ren) so thats at least two tickets right there while SATC can be seen by a single woman or a ‘boyfriend refused to see it’ girlfriend so of course Shrek made more than that crummy midlife crisis movie

This is easily explained, Shrek was in 3D and Imax which means higher ticket prices. I’m sure if you look at number of tickets sold instead of box office return more people went to go see SATC 2 and Prince of Persia. Also, even though Shrek is number 1 two weeks in a row it’s still performing well under studio expectations.

I think its a very simple answer – who wants to see a bunch of well off people doing stuff that just seems gauwdy.

Then there is a cartoon that you can watch with your family that ISN’T bout excess and exotic travels

I know the answer is in the bad reviews and I am one of the bad reviewers! I love these ladies and I was excited to see the movie and yes I had a helluva night seeing it (midnight show on 34th was packed and all the ladies and gentlemen were dressed to the nines) but the movie sucked ass. I was so damn disappointed it is not even funny. I was sure to tell the masses to stay clear from this movie.

Damn it breaks my heart to even say it, but it’s true IMO.
