A 16-year old California girl who had been attempting to sail around the world alone has been found alive after losing radio contact with her family and suffering a broken boat mast. According to the AP:
After a tense 20 hours of silence, a search plane launched from Australia’s west coast made radio contact with Abby Sunderland on Friday in the frigid southern seas where her boat was repeatedly knocked down by huge waves and she lost satellite phone contact.
“She’s got all the skills she needs to take care of what she has to take care of, she has all the equipment as well,” said brother Zac, himself a veteran of a solo sail around the world at age 17. He said Abby was prepared and mentally tough.
Abby — whose father is a shipwright and has a yacht management company — set sail from Los Angeles County’s Marina del Rey in her boat, Wild Eyes, on Jan. 23 in an attempt to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone without stopping. Her brother briefly held the record in 2009.
Most parents wouldn’t even let their 16-year old daughter go to the mall alone. See the news report after the jump…

She’s very courageous.
I know she`s 16 but i have to say it…she`s cute
Why not call Child Services. Are you serious? Parents get locked up for less but they get a pass. If she died what then? Love my kids too much to do that. Would never send them into shark infested, Pirate waters.
