Kelis’ new album Flesh Tone, which features more dance techno music and marks her first release on Interscope Records sold a mere 7,833 copies its first week in stores according to Hits Daily Double. The album was released in the UK two months earlier – which seems to be a stronger market for Kelis, but her US fans didn’t seem to be into the new album very much judging by the sales.

karma’s a bitch, eh? she got money, albeit nas’.
thats what a T.H. gets. Care to mention how well Distant Relatives did?
this is what happens when you suck ass.
It would have actually been good for her and Nas if this album had been a success, or done a decent amount of numbers. That way she could start to support herself instead of continuing to take his money.
Only The Neptunes can save her music career…what’s left of it.
7,833??? Could we maybe write it out long ways at least… I mean, “Kelis sold seven-thousand eight hundred and thirty three copies” looks better right??? man… that’s… that’s shameful. I think homeboy at the local gas station sold more of his independent trap rap last week than that!
I guess when your new album in it’s entirety can be played in rotation at H&M on Sunday morning, that’s a sign you should re-think that particular venture.
It wasn’t promoted, what did you expect? Everyone I know never heard the first single, much less knew the name of this album.
yea i didn’t even know the album came out already :-/
No one is feeling her. This F-L-O-P had nothing to do with promotion or her record label and has everything to do with the publics opinion of her.
didnt even know she had an album out….and i know lots of things about rap/rnb
The CD is GOOD if you like/enjoy that type of music. Americans dont really do real Dance music so this is expected
AMEN!!
Kelis’ album Fleshtone flopped on the UK charts and globally as well! This album debuted at #46 on the UK charts in the first week also…its failure has nothing to do with US buyers or lack of promotion because she promoted this album more than any other…late night show performances and she did major club promotion/performances in the US and UK and performed on the TODAY show!
No, Americans don’t do Kelis.

WOW. SHE DID AWFUL..THATS SAD..BUT NOBODY IS CHECKIN FOR KELIS…BOSSY WAS ONLY GOOD BECAUSE OF THE BEAT BUT I NEVER REALLY LIKED HER.HER WILD STYLE WAS CUTE WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG BUT SHES A MOM AND SHES OLD SHE NEEDS TO DRESS MORE AGE APPROPIATE AND PUT OUT MUSIC PEOPLE WITH EARS AND BRAINS CAN LISTEN TOO.
This is an amazing album and Kelis really took a chance and put something out there that is from the heart. So what it didn’t sell 8 million copies…..the fact that the generally stupid pubilc who embraces pre-fab pop don’t love it…makes it all the better to me.
Her sales are low because the album just isn’t good. There are a few songs worth downloading but nothing is breathtakingly amazing. Her past albums often had a few gems between other good material. This album has a few good songs between lots of uninteresting stuff. She brings a lot of talent to the table, but she’s the kind of artist that needs inventive collaborators to help her fully sketch out her songs and keep things from getting stale. It’s why fo much of her best material was when she was working with The Neptunes, who stopped her compositions from being overly generic the way they are on Flesh Tones. Too often songs with lots of potential get worn out after only a handful of listens because of the banality in her drum beats or synth melodies. Another problem is that she lacks a lot of the personality quirks that have been shown on her other albums. She’s showing a different side of herself, and that’s okay, but with so much of what makes her endearing lacking here she fails to come across as someone you’d want to hang out with and willingly talk with for hours. Her other albums make you want to hang out with her and conquer the world.
