You Can’t Breastfeed Your 6-Year Old……..

by admin on 07/15/2010 · 7 comments

We. Could. Not. Make. This. Stuff. Up.  According to the news report out of Australia:

A court has ordered a mother not to breastfeed her six-year-old son. During a custody battle over the little boy in a Melbourne court, it was revealed he had complained that the mother wanted him to suckle her breasts during a visit with her last year.

The mother denied she had breastfed the child, then five, saying that they were lying down and he wanted to touch her breasts, according to court documents. The court rejected her explanation and restrained the mother from exposing her breasts to the child, requiring him to suckle or permitting him to touch her breasts.

I wouldn’t call it ‘disgusting’ because breast feeding is one of the most natural things on this earth, there’s nothing sexual about a woman breastfeeding her own child. However in our society it is unusual and not something that is necessary for a child’s development at that age. Clearly this is a comfort for both the child and mother, the downside is that a child of this age most certainly would be scrutinised by their peers if they continued to breastfeed, so the habit needs to stop. And really at this age he should be taught to comfort himself instead of relying on breastfeeding.
