PETA Comes After Janet Jackson For Her New FUR Ad!

by admin on 07/18/2010 · 12 comments

PETA spokeswoman Amanda Schinke has spoken out about Janet Jackson’s new BlackGlama fur ad campaign saying the following:

“It’s amazing what celebrities will do when their careers are on a downslide, but we didn’t think that Janet was this desperate.

“Surely she knows enough about suffering and unjustified death to recognise that both occur in the production of a fur coat. We are asking her to think again and to donate these stolen skins to be used as bedding for animals orphaned by other human-caused disasters, such as loss of habitat.”

OUCH!  Should Janet write a response like Kelis did?

So a ‘fat’(are we in the 90s?) coat is more important than an animals life?

If those animals met you on the street, they are not nice to you. They are a form of a rat. Do you protect mice and rats?

I wouldn’t hurt them.

They act like Janet personally killed the animals.

I don’t recall Janet doing adds for any Brand in the past. That said I like Janet but hate the fur industry. The Fur industry is cruel an needs to end. Technology has long since invented fabrics that can keep us warm with out resorting to fur. Human beings forget that we are nothing more than animals ourselves, we do not have the right to abuse other animals simply for our vanity.
I think if people could see the conditions animals that are raised for the use of fur or for us to eat are are raised in an treated they may have a change of heart. I do believe animals have emotions much like us to ignore that makes us inhumane.

Animals are stalked, killed, and eaten by other animals every day. So please with all this protect the animal’s bullshit… because either way you look at it, they are going to face an imminent horrible death one way or the other.

@Skinz n thingz – whatever… if you want your rights as a human being respected you have to respect all life. Animals kill each other to eat( for survival ) , not to wear them as a coat , so your point has no merit .

@ Garvin
I was being extreme with my point. But humans have always hunted animals for their fur since the begining of time. So your theory of respect for the lives of animals and human rights is a product of your personal belief system that you have every right to honor. However, you can not force or try to intimidate someone else into following your belief system, which is what PETA is doing. Wearing fur is not illegal and is a personal choice. The fur industry actually pales in comparison to the oil, diamond, mining and other industries where HUMAN lives are disregarded and not respected on an everyday basis.

@Skinz n thingz
At one point in our recent history the ruling class thought nothing of blacks being slaves or being made made to ride at the back of the bus an the list goes on an on… if many people held your view of having an opinion but just keep to ones self we would still be in the dark ages.
Am not pro peta but they serve a purpose…as do many organizations that speak up for those with out a vioce.

@ Garvin
There is nothing that you can say to me that can logically equate animal rights to human rights. I don’t and will never view those two causes as being the same. PETA’s purpose is being overshadowed by their intimidation methods.

Killing animals for fur/fashion should be a sad past history. Just as the slave trade and other abhorrent practices are horrible history – something to look back upon and to be ashamed that humans could have EVER had the ability to be brutal and unfeeling about others/other creatures for their own selfish ends.
In reality, unlike the pre-industrial revolution times, Fur is not needed as a clothing item, it is not needed for human survival, it only becomes a desired item, just like blood diamonds, death and inhumanity are direct results from their harvesting.
People who covet such items, people who buy such items knowing their source, are people who lack control, people who lack sensitivity and who clearly are misguided.
Fashion is highly superficial and largely unnecessary, particularly when it directly links to death and suffering, of any creature.
Anyone who feels that they can justify killing, slavery, torture or pain of any living creature, is clearly neither humane, nor empathetic, in fact, one would even point to their lack of sanity and/or intelligence as flawed creatures themselves.
Only utter morons follow celebrity or fashion as adoring drones.
We have choices here – and the best way to cause harm or discomfort to celebrities (people who derive income from being ‘followed’ by others/consumers) is to NOT support them at all – ever!.
Withdraw your attention from them.
Of course you need to know what they did wrong in the first place to be able to withdraw support from them – and this is what PETA’s campaign is doing – letting us all know so that we can act accordingly.
So, do not buy the inhumane products that they support – PLUS, ensure that you also stop buying ANY other products associated with them, and let the sponsors KNOW why, by writing to them, telling them you are changing brands to another product/company to who is DOES NOT use a fur wearing ‘celebrity’.
Oh and of course – don’t buy her music or purchase concert tickets etc also hits directly where she hurts… her income.
Plus encourage others to do the same.
