You Wouldn’t Want To Call 911 In Oakland, California

by admin on 07/19/2010 · 5 comments

This is like a new type of no snitching rule – not because you’re following some sort of code, because you can’t.  Due to budget cutbacks and police layoffs in Oakland city police officers will now only be responding to certain 911 calls with everyone else having to fill out a form online. Comforting……according to news reports:

As worrisome as it sounds, Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts released a list of dozens of “minor” crimes last week that would no longer receive a response from police if they were called into 911.

Among those: residential burglary (for insurance purposes when no investigation is needed), identity theft, annoying and harassing phone calls, barking dogs, violation of a restraining order if the order has been filed and served, runaways who aren’t in immediate danger, and violation of a court order.

The move is being made so patrol officers can focus on “Priority 1″ level calls — where a person’s life is in immediate danger. The department estimates that 25 percent of the 80,000 daily calls it receives are low-priority calls. Instead, victims to these crimes are being asked to submit an online police report detailing the crime, and information that could help investigators catch whoever committed the act.

Get mad Oakland….email somebody and let them know you’re not going to take this and hope they respond!

Sadly I’m not even surprised. The things that happen in Oakland are mind boggling.

This list was a scare tactic for local residents as a means to provide the OPD with adequate funding. As a Oakland homeowner I can attest that they do show up when you call 911
