Sean Bell’s Estate To Receive $3.25 Million From New York City

The family of the New York man who was shot at more than 50 times on the night before his wedding say they are still mourning his loss, will this victory make them feel any better?  According to CNN:

New York City will pay more than $7 million to settle a civil lawsuit brought by the estate of a man killed by police outside a Queens’ nightclub in 2006 and by his two friends, who were seriously wounded, a spokeswoman for the city’s Law Department said Tuesday.

The estate of Sean Bell, who was killed in the shooting, will receive $3.25 million, Joseph Guzman receive $3 million and Trent Benefield will get $900,000, said Kate Ahlers.

“The city regrets the loss of life in this tragic case, and we share our deepest condolences with the Bell family,” Michael Cardozo, attorney for the New York City Law Department. “We hope that all parties can find some measure of closure by this settlement.”

The three officers involved in the shooting were all acquitted in 2008.

It’s about time. Oscar Grant’s family should be awarded something as well for their tragic loss.

I think the amounts are fine… If her family can’t live off 3 million she’s an idiot! What did make me upset was I read the story on CNN.com this morning from the mediatakeout link… Instead of putting a picture of them or their families, these racist mofo’s put up a picture of the strip club!!! A dirty ass strip club at that… it was tasteless and offensive!

Really?? Offensive?? What’s offensive is that these low lifes were hangin in a perp den at 4am, before his wedding day, and tried to run over a police officer. The fact any money was paid out to these skells is offensive. More tax payer money to a few folks who probably don’t even pay taxes.

JC what makes you think they dont pay taxes? Going to a strip club is pretty normal for a bachelor party.. I know women hire strippers for their bachelorette parties. These same cops who perceived them to be armed is the same officers who perceived their car “lurching” towards them.

Fuck that! It’s not going to bring him back OR stop the police from taking shots at innocent black men…they use them as target practice! Granted it will HELP…but honestly…Sean isn’t here…and the cycle continues! People need to be held accountable for their actions…ESPECIALLY the Boys In Blue. I feel like this is just a way to shut them up and NY is hoping they’ll just go away…

Can that black “man” that murdered my white best friend, by shooting HER in the head while she slept compensate her family? Or my white aunt who was beaten, raped, and stabbed over 30 times by a black “man” be compensated? Can my wife and mother-in-law be compensated for having to run for their lives from a black “man” shooting aimlessly at the mall be compensated? Can my mother who has had to hide from a black “man” shooting aimlessly around her office building during a CHURCH meeting be compensated? We are an average-high white family, and this many women in my life have been affected by BLACK “MEN” and their common ways. I am sorry for Sean Bell and the loss that his wife has experienced because I know the pain. But how can black men honestly NOT be targeted? Look at the way the majority acts. RIP to everyone who has lost their lifes to “gun crazy” thugs.

Since your family seems to be targets, have you considered moving? I hear that Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana & Maine are pretty much black-free.

Thats what happens when you live in the ghetto, son. Sean Bell was murdered by public servants AKA police officers, your family was victimized by criminals. See the difference? You do know there is a difference between criminals and the police, right?

I think the cop should’ve been punished. It just doesn’t make any sense. Kill a black man who WASN’T armed and no jail time? Smh. Money isn’t everything!
