I used to subscribe to the ‘blacks should hire blacks’ way of thinking because we were shut off from so many opportunities for so long. But now tI hink that the most qualified person for the position should be hired. This will force all interested applicants to sharpen their skill set and think further out of the box.

On another note, I also think HBCU’s need to be dismantled so that black students are in the same learning evironments as their future competition.

Yeah be basically got over the hurdle that we have to have own shit because we weren’t allowed to share it, or they held us back. Now it just seem hypocritical to deny another race some jobs now and days. I totally get that we should have a magazine that caters to our needs, but this is fashion…not the actually magazine. I mean i’m pretty sure this woman is not going to run around hiring white models that we can’t relate to…she is just the person that overseas the fashion aspect of the magazine, and if we don’t like it then we shouldnt buy is and then they will get the message.

Well she made her point, The Fashion Editor should Be Black, no other businesses do this except for Black Enterprises. our people are too fickle . ANY other business, thats white, Chinese, Indian or Spanish keep the core people reflecting there business and audience.

Oh and not to sound inflammatory but vary rarely is most qualified person is hired for any position. As long as business existed. It first goes who you Trust, who you know , and to fill in some blanks who’s left to qualify. The reason i say that businesses are started by normal people like ourselves with friends , family and close people. Once you “put on ” the people who you know and trust then you look to hire qualified people.

True, but when it comes to bigger corporations whose business is in fiercly competetive fields, I believe skills and qualifications do play a significant role in addition to the nepotism. That’s why Donald Trump sent his kids to top ranking Ivy leage schools. Look at how the hiring of unqualified friends, family, and associates has damn near ruined the black music business over the last decade.

Your point is very valid and true. But he is running a color blind business. The only business Donald is interested in is what makes money period. He’s See’s green and puts his children through the best schools so he can hire them. Key word hire them. So they are a qualified by the knowledge and experience they have gained by schooling he put them through. Now you know there any amount of people just qualified as children and have more experience but they Donald’s kids SO guess what ! there on the Apprentice.

Sorry, but blacks SHOULD hire blacks!!! I’m not discriminating purposefully, but let’s face it…. but that SAME white person has about 10 -15 OTHER offers waiting for them, while a black candidate has 5 or less! It’s hardly fair!

How are you “not discriminating purposefully” when you say that “blacks SHOULD hire blacks”?

The owner of BET is white.
This is not a big deal. It’s not like this is the first time a black business harbors white employees.
