“This is how you make me feel Chelsea….”
Wow! A woman from Long Island University journalism student Chelsea Kate was doing a paper for her school when she emailed Apple’s Media Relations Department to no response. When that didn’t work Chelsea did the unthinkable, she sent an email to SJobs@Apple.com – the CEO’S personal email address. Here’s how her conversation with one of the world’s richest men went:
“Mr. Jobs, I humbly ask why Apple is so wonderfully attentive to the needs of students, whether it be with the latest, greatest invention or the company’s helpful customer service line, and yet, ironically, the Media Relations Department fails to answer any of my questions which are, as I have repeatedly told them, essential to my academic performance.”
Then he actually replied a short while later…
“Our goals do not include helping you get a good grade. Sorry.”
Then she said…
“I never said that your goal should be to “help me get a good grade.” Rather, I politely asked why your media relations team does not respond to emails, which consequently, decreases my chances of getting a good grade. But, forget about my individual situation; what about common courtesy, in general —- if you get a message from a client or customer, as an employee, isn’t it your job to return the call? That’s what I always thought. But I guess that’s not one of your goals.”
And he replied again…
“Nope. We have over 300 million users and we can’t respond to their requests unless they involve a problem of some kind. Sorry.”
Then she tried to get gangsta…
You’re absolutely right, and I do meet your criteria for being a customer who deserves a response:
1. I AM one of your 300 million users.
2. I DO have a problem; I need answers that only Apple Media Relations can answer.
Now, can they kindly respond to my request (my polite and friendly voice can be heard in the first 5 or 10 messages in their inbox). Please, I am on deadline.
By this time Steve had probably had enough replying…
“Please leave us alone.”
We would give Chelsea an ‘A’ for effort and kudos to Steve Jobs for doing what most who don’t get a fraction of his emails would do – respond to an uncomfortable email. But was he too mean??

I would have emailed him and said that’s why you have cancer. I know it would solve nothing but I imagine it would have made her feel that much better.
I dont know about saying all of that..
yeah, dude was arrogant and obnoxious…but karma is a bitch…and I couldnt envision myself saying somethin like that..
he most likely has a intern reading a replying to his emails
Uh..YES he was mean! The girl didn’t ask for anything but for the people who are in the Media Relations dept. to call her back. She could have been asking about ANYTHING! This does not look good on Mr. Jobs and I would be highly upset if I had to deal with this type of customer service and then he would be getting a different type of email.
If this is true then I’m not mad at him. Whatever info she needs for an assignment should be obtained from information that is available to the public. No professor gives an assignment that would require direct responses from a company.
Job is correct – that’s not their company’s goal. If it were a question about equipment she purchased then she should be entitled to a response. Otherwise do as any student would do – DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!
That’s exactly what she was doing, her research. While I was in college I called companies all the time for information and while some decline to disclose the info, they at least responded. Which is all the student was asking for in this instance
All he did was show that he had time to respond which means he had time to just fucking forward her email over to media relations! Douche bag. And everyone knows shit like this is great publicity whether you need it or not. The pulic eats these types of stories up when a CEO personally takes time out to help a consumer with anything.
lol he was great ..playful and carless.. well yes he was mean
Lmfao he said “Please leave us alone” i laughed out loud. Girl was very polite and nice smh at Jobs. Apple would only talk to you when it comes down to money talk, other than that forgetaboutit.
This is hilarious!!!
it’s a mult-billion dollar company – not a homework help line. the fact that he even responded was too much. get to googling shawty.
so what are you? a saw? screwdriver? wrench? i know you’re some kind of tool.
i know what you aren’t.
I’m with you on this one blyx!!! I work for a government entity and I used to respond to student questions, but after a while it got to be too much and interfered with me doing work. So now I tell them any info they need is on the internet. Heck naw this isn’t a homework help line.
GOOGLE. YAHOO. ASK. you get the idea……look it up!!!
And besides why is she being so lazy? Do your own assignment!!
The sad part about this is that if she was from CNN or GMA they would have responded promptly. So that means if you were John Doe from a newspaper that they didn’t respect they won’t respond. Just tell the girl that any questions she needs is one the site. End of story.
AGREED.
She should not have to go to Steve Jobs or any corporation to get answers to questions. She is trying to be a smart ass with a quote. Just like she is blowing this email out of proportion chances are whatever feedback Apple would have given her would have been blown as well. Apple is a consumer electronics company…not a media firm that is suppose to answer your emails. If they did that for every customer we wouldn’t get anything out of them.
sadly, this just made my after-noon.
LOL
this is hella funny
this bitch needs to realize that he doesn’t have time for her. He try to tell her the first time but she doesn’t understand no.
That girl had an attitude from word on. She was obviously being sarcastic and nasty. She deserved the response she got. Do the research in your library or online data sources, I’m sure any answers that can be disclosed to the public already are.
it was rude for her to hit him up on his personal email address that he did not even give out to her. i have hundreds of customers I manage, and everyone acts like you are the only thing they are dealing with. It can really take a toll on your life if you dont have some boundaries. Just because she wants, or anyone for that matter, wants something, that does not mean you deserve to get it. Also, courtesy goes both ways!!!!!
Damn, they treated her like she was black.
I would have responded the same way Jobs did. As if I would have so much time in my hand to reply this little girl’s e-mail? Imagine hundreds or thousands of college kids e-mailing questions just so that they could get a good grade for their paper. At least he apologized which I think it’s good enough.
