Baptist Leader Says Yoga Is Not Christian

by admin on 10/08/2010 · 11 comments

And we thought they were just stretching on mats! According to the report out of Kentucky:

A Southern Baptist leader who is calling for Christians to avoid yoga and its spiritual attachments is getting plenty of pushback from enthusiasts who defend the ancient practice. Southern Baptist Seminary President Albert Mohler says the stretching and meditative discipline derived from Eastern religions is not a Christian pathway to God.

Mohler said he objects to “the idea that the body is a vehicle for reaching consciousness with the divine…that’s just not Christianity,” Mohler told The Associated Press.

Even though this guy probably has better ways he can help his followers, what do you think?

Seriously is that all he could come up with or was he just desperate to see his name in print somewhere. I don’t do yoga but see it as meditation and I don’t see how meditating is unChrist-like

Some of ya’ll need to ask what would Jesus do… Yoga is definitely not a christ like or christian practice… it’s “meditation” or worship of idolatry. Animals, other Gods, etc.

People that are that caught up in what is Christian or what is not are fools for their own religion. As long as you live by the code of what Christ preached then you are Christian. If most people did their history studies and have true knowledge that the bible as we know it was modified to fit the King James era of people…. so until someone is able to read the original language and find the original books, quit saying what is and what isn’t Christian. Think about it, the biggest organization of Christianity is in Rome, who persecuted Jesus hmmmmm…. wasn’t it the Romans? So how are they the the authority of what is Christian?

this guy is an idiot…he may be stating is true beliefs while hoping for 15 mins of fame like that other idiot who wanted to burn the Quran …Yoga is more than likely older than Christianity an is not to be scoffed at.

“is not a Christian pathway to God”……hahaha!! but touching little boys’ genitals is? I’m an atheist but even if I was a believer the percentage of people living acording to the “bibles” way is 0%. This guy is an attention whore.

Many scholars believe that Jesus studied in India from the ages of 12 – 33. Who knows maybe even Jesus studied Yoga. But anyways.. I don’t really practice the religion of my ex-slave masters.
