“Look at debt in the African American community and how it can be like slavery” That has to be one of the most dumbest comments you guys have blogged all year, If your in debt, your debt cause you spent what you didn’t have. It got nothing to do with color, race, jobs or anything. You spent what you didn’t have and now you owe it, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with SLAVERY. When are people going to get over slavery? Shit happened like 50 yrs ago, its a new day, a new society….WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE

But yeah debt has little to do with race.

Did he just say that slavery happened 50 years ago?!?! What a moron! It ended after the Civil War and President Lincoln gave the Proclamation of Emancipation, dumb dumb.

Regardless, why is it that the person that knows the LEAST is always the one who has the MOST to say?

The gentleman in the video was talking about slavery in the historical sense. He was simply trying to illustrate his point by using slavery as an analogy; with debt being an implied bondage to your lender.

By the way, how dare you try to trivialize the effects of slavery on an entire race of people? I personally make it a point to not bring it up, but, trust and believe that the aftereffects of slavery still linger to this day.
The enslavement of African Americans in this country gave white people in this country a 400 year head start over the people that they held captive, killed/slaughtered, abused and oppressed for centuries… for FOUR CENTURIES. It’s unfathomable of how easy it is for the descendants of the oppressors to just write it off, as if it were nothing. Unless you’ve experienced racism; not someone calling you a name like; cracker or whitey, but real, all out racism — when someone systematically plots/plans and carries out the most heinous acts of hatred against your entire race for CENTURIES, simply over the color of your skin complexion, then and only then can you begin to rationalize, empathize and truly understand what the word slavery means, in the historical sense of the word. Don’t get me started on “COINTELPRO” (look it up).

Correction: The gentleman in the video WASN’T talking about slavery in the historical sense. He was simply trying to illustrate his point by using slavery as an analogy; with debt being an implied bondage to your lender.

He actually should have compared it to indentured servitude, instead of slavery. Perhaps that would’ve clarified his point a little bit better. He probably used the term Slavery for shock valve in an attempt to boost ratings for the program.

Actually no. In the program, he quotes a scripture, a proverb that says that a borrower is a slave to the lender. This little clip takes it out of context.
