It has some nice visuals, but the storytelling is not impressive at all. Then I saw “Written By Hype Williams” and I realize why.

The Phoenix and Kanye suddenly speak on a significant plot point moments before it’s paid off in the end. Amateur. Lessens the impact altogether.

That’s Funny! But what’s more funny is all you niggers on here jocking this half-rate “art” film. ..Kanye can’t act… The model can’t act… Kanye can’t direct… Hype Williams should stay away from “movies” (see Belly). Def Jam should ask for their money back….

Let me break it down for you Rib-eating Niggers…… A phoenix lands on earth and Kanye takes her in. Kanye then tries to integrate her into our world, but it doesn’t work out, because we earthlings are too simple minded…. The Phoenix is an obvious metaphor for Kanye himself and all the criticism he received during The Taylor Swift debacle…… Note to industry, don’t let Niggers make “art” films. Stick to “Boyz in da Hood”, Menace 2 Society” and “Belly” .

@Chun

STFU with your racist criticisms. I, like you, believe the direction, acting and overall storytelling sucks. But to make an ignorant blanket statement about Blacks not being able to make films beyond hood lore is ridiculous.

You’re clearly simple-minded because you took pride on “breaking down” the film’s obvious symbolism.

Kanye has got this incredible vision to elevate and it shows
The film would’ve been much better, had Kanye relinquished directorial duties to the magical Hype.

The sets, dancers, and choreography were OK! however there were some critical details of cinema that were missing which rendered this film short and empty.

The music was as to be expected INCREDIBLE but the images drowned out the soul from the sounds, there was no correlation – the audience should’ve never seen the seams.

OH well, what the fuck do I know, Right?

Kanye never ceases to astound me! Creativity out the wasoo, I thoroughly enjoyed the film, I wish I understood more of the imagery, like the little boy with the can of red smoke and the ballerinas were beautiful but what was the point of them? I’m not too artistically deep but I smiled when I saw the dark-skin folks at the dinner table with the white folks serving…LOVE IT! Great film, Selita was very hot, that costume was insane!

Your comment is the one I respect the most…someone admitting they didn’t understand it all. instead of the It’s amazing, I loved it, incredible…

I respect it, but just not what I expected.

Growing up in the MJ video era my expectations are just too high.

I agree..my expectations will never be met.

People try and try and that’s admirable but all fall short in the end.

I like kanye. This is poor acting, and how do you tell someone with the ego the size of china you’re not feeling his music? I dont like the direction he is taking the world , musically. and that toast douchebag song is awful.

People who don’t understand this film from their point of view shouldn’t just go and start making negative comments about this film. Try to watch it again and try to determine the significance behind each scene and then integrate them and then you’ll get the moral of this film. Showing your ignorance towards this film and kanYe himself just because you don’t comprehend the moral of this film doesn’t make you any better of a person. Well perhaps this film wasn’t meant to be understood by ignorant people, therefore you shouldn’t watch this film if you just going to complain about it and make insolent remarks.

Care to enlighten us with your theory on the significance of the imagery, as well as the underlying themes & moral of the story?

I have some ideas. But, I’m not ashamed to admit that there were some things about this film that I don’t fully understand.

I also believe that some of the greatest works of art are left open to interpretation. That’s what makes abstract art so compelling.

But, again, if you have a better understanding of Kanye’s vision, then please share it with us. I’m interested in reading your take on it.

Kanye coulda recorded himself pissing in a bucket and you dumb fucks woulda been falling to you knees in complete awe and admiration. That short film was not some mind blowing award worthy rare piece of poignant art. It was just an extended video of Kanye feeding his ever present ego.

I hate to admit it, but I’m one of the people that didn’t quite “get” the entire piece. Despite that, I will say that I’m impressed with where Kanye is taking hip hop. That alone deserves my attention and support. And I dig the scence with all the black folks sitting at the table being served by those other folks. That’s a nice look.
