New Trend Alert: Putting A Gap Between Your Front Teeth

by admin on 10/27/2010 · 14 comments

We love Lara Stone, but this is one trend we will hate!  According to a news article:

Gap-toothed models were all over the runways at this season’s Paris Fashion Week. Instead of fixing their teeth, some of Hollywood’s freshest faces, including Anna Paquin and Elizabeth Moss, proudly sport a midline diastema, the dental term for the gap. And, last month, on “America’s Next Top Model,” host Tyra Banks sent a 22-year-old contestant from Boise, Idaho, to the dentist to widen her gap. The beauty blogosphere has been buzzing ever since.

Men sport the gap, too, but culturally, there has always been a mystique about diastematic women. In Ghana, Namibia and Nigeria, a gap in women’s teeth is a sign of beauty and fertility, says Bernice Agyekwena, a Ghanaian journalist.

Experts in the fashion industry say the trend is due to people getting tired of seeing “perfection” all the time in fashion ads.  Is there any way you would purposely separate your two front teeth?  Keep in mind you may not be able to put them back together when the “trend” is over…

My girlfiend has been pointing out this trend to me for a while lol. We both hate it, its like thinking leprosy looks good, your teeth aren’t sposed to be that way, but then again I guess girls aren’t supposed to be anorexic skinny but thats the fashion :s

AdamHC…

Your comment “your teeth aren’t sposed to be that way” is quite silly and actually illustrates exactly why this trend has taken hold. How is anyone “supposed” or “sposed” to be? Especially with regards to beauty. Gap teeth are like dimples (inherited) and is a genetic trait – so is red hair…. Your comment regarding leprosy is not a good correlation.

If you don’t think it’s attractive, by all means, but gap teeth are not on par with leprosy – Leprosy’s never been “in.”

HEY!!!!!!! watch these comments. I sport a gap (naturally) and I would NEVER close it. With that being said, if you were not born with it, don’t imitate it.

this is ridiculous. tired of perfection… so they go to the doctor and make it imperfect by design as supposed to NATURAL imperfections (which is perfect in my book)

Amazing… where are we going with all of this?

I think gap teeth on women look great, but I LOVE a gap toothed man. I am not alone there, either… hottest thing ever.
