by admin on 11/29/2010 · 27 comments

A group called the American Atheist have put up a new billboard outside of New York’s Lincoln Tunnel announcing that Christmas is a big fat myth.  Get Santa Claus on the phone!!!!  The news report is after the jump.

I believe in God & Jesus, with that said…

Christmas is a BIG, FAT, LIE and myth… pagan holiday, pagan idolatry… has nothing to do with Jesus. He wasn’t born on that day and it’s become about complete commercialism.

As a totally non religious person, I must say I agree with the group putting up the sign. Christians have billboards all over (at least where I live) so I really don’t see what the big deal is. Personally, every time I come across a Christian and I tell them I’m not religious, they immediately try to covert me so I think it’s hypocritical for Christians to say Atheist shouldn’t try to convert.

I disagree with the billboard. This is a Christian country and as such we have Christian holidays. Everyone has the right to disagree and not participate. But it is totally disrepsctful for non-believers to challenge our beliefs during the holiday. If Christians were to attack any other religion during their high holy holidays, there would be hell to pay.

on the basis that its a christian country,,,,that also allows freedom of speech and (other) religion….deal with it!

Who says this is a Christian country? Religious nut cases are FOLLOWERS who think everyone else MUST become a non thinking follower as well. Those of us who don’t follow your beliefs in many cases just keep it to ourselves so we don’t have to waste our time discussing the truth with those who don’t want to hear it.
I too am glad they put that up, we are bombarded daily with religion and a church on every corner…time to face the truth about your fantasy.

this isn’t a christian country by design. the constitution has launguage that supports religious tolerance and makes no reference of a “default” religion.

RELIGION IS FOR SIMPLE MINDED PEOPLE WHO LIVE ON CRUTCHES!

USA was formerly a Christian country but it has changed. That’s why the Christians got there britches in a bunch.

no. most of the founding fathers were Deists. Deists believe in a God as sort of original force of the universe. they don’t believe god interferes in human affairs – no prophets, no bible or holy texts. they don’t pray, etc. this is a product of the enlightenment movement. they were not christians. this is why there is a reference to a God in the constitution – but no reference to a particular faith. the country was founded upon the idea of religious freedom which is why it’s explicit in the constitution that you can’t discriminate on religion for presidents and other public office positions.

so the idea that the US was formerly a Christian country – when? the country has become christian because christianity now predominates.

unfortunately for christians – secularism rises with advanced education. athiesm and agnosticism also rise with advanced education. there is a correlation with conservative religious views and poor intellect and lower levels of compelted schooling.

that said, think about what that means for our country when we attempt to appease the religious right.

Obviously you’ve haven’t been around long cause Christians dominated.

Life and history are full of lies & myths, but if you think this universe and the complexity of human beings were created without a plan behind it then you are stupid.

God is real people, some of the stories are false.

so if people dont believe in god they are stupid?… so who created the creator… rather who created the plan for the one who created the plan… just a thought?

Christmas is not a myth. It happens every 365 days on Dec. 25th… look it up.
