this is just the media making a big deal about nothing. notice how the film cuts as soon as the guy starts answering a question..this is not racism.its just soap…if america goes on like this the word racism is going to lose its meaning .

That sh*t is racist. Those images are insulting and meant to recall a time in America when black people had it really bad. Imagine showing a picture of jewish folks in a concentration camp and calling the soap jewwy or something. No one would look and say no big deal, or it’s not racist because the owner said it wasnt. GTFOH!

Seriously…..I’ll be damned the day I let some racist soap offend me…like seriously…this soap and the images on the soap would never stop me from advancing as an African American…Man I would shower with Darkie Soap all day and still go out and move forward…we are so sensitive.

Your right, but not everybody is as you are. Therefore, something should be done about this.

No that’s the completely wrong approach. We shouldn’t be removing things because a group of people find it offensive. In this country we have a right to free speech and that includes art and historical things like that soap. Freedom of speech means we protect peoples right to express themselves the way that they choice and that constitutional right was put there to specifically protect things like this which may offend some people.

You are why blacks will never unite as a whole, always someone who just won’t give a crap. White people? They would boycotted that store until the owners threw that crap away.

I’m black and I don’t think it’s racist. If the store sells memorabilia from American history, I don’t see how or why they should forget slavery and racism and exclude it from their merchandise. I know they aren’t screening their customers who buy the soap because the customer may very well be racist, but I don’t expect anyone to be sensitive to my feelings simply because I’m Black. That’s what this is. These people may be insensitive (to the people who are SENSITIVE) but there’s a good chance that they aren’t racist.

Racism is’t something to be forgotten and I guarantee that locking away all of the items that teach racism and deleting the word nigger out of the dictionary will not stop the hatred towards blacks. If I saw it, I would purchase some of the soap. There’s nothing to be ashamed of on that rapper of the soap.

People are acting like they are denying black their right to jobs, fair interest rates, and justice under law like the REAL racist do.

I just have to shake my head @ the black people who think this is ok. Do you think the people who fought for us to have the freedoms we have would be ok with this? I
now have a better understanding of why we blacks have so much trouble today.
And you like a fool will go buy this? I just don’t know what is wrong with black people, I really don’t.

@charlie
I don’t know what wrong with Black people who do not know how to fight the appropriate battles. Black people will stop at every Black history museum all around the country and look at the same black soap and mammy dolls because they ASSUME that the museum is black owned they don’t make a fuss BUT when there is an apparent white owner of this little rinky dink store they want to put it on the news.

I don’t know what the people who fought for us would have to say but I bet they would be more worried about cities closing black schools, black male prison ratios, suspension rates in schools (black kids get suspended 3x more than any other race), higher interest rates for black home owners, black children being 6x more likely to have sex before the age of 15 etc. I would like to assume that they would NOT be chasing white people with soaps.

I would personally purchase it for the same reason Blacks visit history museums; it reminds me of where I came from and further lets me know where I’m going. I do not run nor hide from the images our past; I embrace it. I’ve even gone to Mississippi (I’m from the south) to pick cotton to truly understand my ancestors past and appreciate my blessings which is probably why black soaps don’t phase me.

I can get into the many reasons why Blacks in America have problems today but an old white couple selling soaps with black face on it isn’t one of them, unless you count wasting time and energy.

It not just about the soap, its about the history yes and the fact that they feel that they can sell something offensive and not even think about how it might make blacks feel. They know we aren’t going to say a word and they are right, as usual. We can’t even come together to take this offensive merchandise off shelves and you want to talk about fixing schools, sex etc… We can’t even come together for something “minor”, theres no way we are ready for anything else.

Lmao darkie soap. This guy is clearly a racist white dude. Just look at his face, it’s written RACIST all over it. C’mon son gtfo. lol darkie soap wuahahaha too funny

People are so fucking uneducated when it comes to things like this. Those soaps are considered “black memorabilia” and there actually are museums across the country that display items like that because they are apart of American history and black history. When I was growing up my mother had one of th biggest privatively owed black memorabilia collections in the northeast and she has stuff just like those soaps on display in our house. Those soaps are probably worth a good bit of money.

damn son you must be like 98 or some shit. ole frederick douglass looking ass nigga.

I’m joking. really good point you made above also. freedom of speech is what it is – there are no laws (other than good taste) that protect individuals from potentially being offended by materials they encounter and the right to do as one pleases as long as it doesn’t infringe upon the rights of others is extremely important – perhaps the most important precept this country is based on. It’s that simple idea that makes this country progressive and revolutionary by design.

The only way this “black memorabilia” can be a “welcomed” part of black history is if the company that manufacutred and sold it was a black owned company. If it wasn’t black people who profited from this “memorabilia” then I consider this shit to be racist.

blugrass Boi 12/13/2010 at 5:22 PM

Im saying, lets get some merchandise, name it something that is blatantly racist toward whites and sale it and see how long it is before we get locked up. Because they won’t stop in getting it taken off the shelves.

charlie 12/14/2010 at 11:18 AM

Thank you! Why can’t we sell something thats shows all the inventions and wars that black people invented or fought in? Always something that refers back to slavery etc… nothing ever to bring us up only bring us down.

And these fools on here are like “yesa masa i’ll buy your racist soap”. idiots!

Many of you are just Silly. I say that the music that plays on the radio and television everyday is 1000000 times more harmful to black people than some soap sitting in a drawer in the middle on no where.

Get a clue Please!

If they were just normal small business owners, Im not tripping off the soap as a Black man, personally. I would be shocked but angry no…Its just like seeing some private citizen fly a confederate flag or the guy who built the KKK snowman……

BUT my issue is and this is where the possible racisim comes in….If they are both lawyers or public defendants and employees of the state and they feel like its cool to sell those soaps, cause I don’t think people were making those soaps back in the 1880′s, you have to feel perosnally this is cool to display. As employees of the state, you can’t display this type of behavior in a side business and not have people question your motives as public defenders

@Charlie

They’ll keep selling “soaps” and keep flying their flag and you all will keep chasing that and the other small stuff. Just like they want you to….

charlie 12/15/2010 at 2:09 PM

Ok, lets have them do whatever they want to and as long as they let us keep our jobs we’ll shut up and be quiet little house negros.

I can see that you have a lost for words because given my earlier statements you can’t even possible think that’s okay with me.

Reply

charlie 12/16/2010 at 5:34 PM

Your right I am because I just can’t understand how you think this is ok? if we can’t unite for this “small stuff” how can we possibly with big issues? All we can do is agree to disagree, I aguess
