This is a little crazy… PETA using the Pope Benedict XVI’s image and imposing a condom over his hands to promote the spaying and neutering of cats and dogs. They decided to run with this ad after comments that the Pope made about condom use in recent interviews. According to the NY Times:
The interviews are to be published this week in a book, and excerpts were posted online by the Vatican’s newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, on Saturday afternoon.
In the book, Benedict said condoms were not “a real or moral solution” to the AIDS epidemic, adding, “that can really lie only in a humanization of sexuality.” But he also said that “there may be a basis in the case of some individuals, as perhaps when a male prostitute uses a condom, where this can be a first step in the direction of a moralization, a first assumption of responsibility.”
This is a far cry from his comments last year where he said “giving out condoms will only increase Aids in Africa.”
Needless to say both the Pope’s statements and the PETA ad are coming under harsh scrutiny from Catholics and animal enthusiasts. What are your thoughts on the Pope’s comments and PETA’s ad?

I could care less about PETA, but when it comes down to it people who don’t think people should give out protection are stupid as “hell”. People are human and only in times of fierce stupidity were people actually afraid to have sex. Condoms should be given and worn at all times with people who you do not know or in a known monogamous relationship with. Even at those times somebody might cheat and then you can get something. So the real comment he should make is be monogamous and people wouldn’t have to worry about protection as much.
I swear they just keep pushing and pushing… If this doesn’t work, then what is next for them?
If you have sex, then there are risks involved PERIOD. If your having sex most likely you are adult enough to deal with the consequences (including pregnancy and HIV just to start). Wearing a condom helps you avoid some of this but its not 100% (or even close to it).
This is just ANOTHER swipe against people of faith and those who think that teaching abstinence as part of the overall sex ed is stupid.
PETA is a full of shit power tripping organization who knows that celebs and public officials are usually afraid of them, so they push the envelope just because they can.
And in 2010 whoever looks to the Catholic church for guidence on sexual issues probably deserves whatever they get.
