New Trend Alert: The Vagina Dance

by admin on 01/13/2011 · 11 comments

A teacher named Jacqulyn Levin may be in some hot water over her sex education methods which required students to dance around the room pointing at vaginas. Good times.

The Illinois Family Institute, a nonprofit ministry based in Carol Stream, posted an article on its website this week claiming Jacqulyn Levin, a health and physical education teacher at Prairie Ridge high school, taught students about female anatomy using “the Vagina Dance.” The article states the dance, which the group said involved pointing to and singing about reproductive parts while prancing around the room, was set to the tune of the Hokey Pokey.

“Her selection of this inappropriate instructional activity demonstrated a lack of empathy for those who may have a degree of modesty and self-respect that Levin does not possess,” wrote Laurie Higgins, director of the Illinois Family Institute’s Division of School Advocacy. “Did she consider that some students might feel uncomfortable participating in or even watching this dance and that they might fear being ridiculed if they chose to opt-out?”

Luckily for Jacqulyn school administrators are siding with her, saying she didn’t give it that nickname the kids did.

Is this appropriate???

Tectonically they say you should teach really young kids(like 4 or5) the correct medical terms for there “private parts” because if someone is molesting them they will be able to tell without being misunderstood by whoever they’re telling. “My uncle touched my vagina” is a lot more clear then “My uncle touched my who-ha”. But maybe the dance is a bit much.

Is this appropriate to re-print is the question. Let the local Illinois community deal with this. No need to promote to whole new audience. Uhh, you coulda kept this story to yourself.

I actually go to Prairie Ridge Highschool where this occurred, and I can tell you for a fact that 1. Levin probably didn’t even know this was called the ‘Vagina Dance’, 2. The terms ‘Vagina Dance’ were definitely student generated 3. There was only one student who complained about this (and he’s done far worse things than Levin doing the ‘Vagina Dance’).

I know both the teacher, an exemplary teacher who DID NOT teach any ‘Vagina Dance’, and the parent who complained. Trust me when I say that the father is mentally unstable on his best day. Sadly, anyone who knows his son, the student, will agree that he will probably turn out just like his son: a sad shell of a man.

I go to prairie ridge and this claim that the dance is in anyway inappropriate is ridiculous there is no pointing to parts as this article falsely accuses she is a wonderful reacher and would never force anything on anyone I have gone through what they are referring to as te vagina Dance and it’s just an ice breaker to get everyone slightly more comfortable with the akward topic along with help you memorize, the people that made this claim should really learn what it’s about before they publish this ridiculos garbage!!!!!

Judging from the misspellings and examples of poor usage in the comments above from students at Prairie Ridge School, that institution has a lot of work to do.

Actually, I went to this school, and YES, the kids did give it this nickname, and THERE IS NO DANCING, HOKEY POKEY, or anything of the sort.

This is being blown way out of proportion by this ignorant father.

A response to “John”:

I’m sorry that you believe that Prairie Ridge High School has “a lot of work to do”, but I gradated from there and I go to college for free because of the rigorous academic load and expectations that were required there. Nobody is perfect, and public school systems do have students that do not achieve as well as “society” wants them to be. A mere two or three examples do not do justice to this fine, academic institution, and shame on you for being so close-minded.
